[See Sticky] MacKeeper fraud ads on Wowhead
Return to board index
Post by

MacKeeper is a notoriously fraudulent malware. It's misrepresented on Wikipedia as "a utility software suite for macOS" but if you read the "Talk" page of the Wikipedia article you'll quickly get the picture.
As a professional Mac technician I have to remove the MacKeeper malware from customers' Macs all the time.
Why does Wowhead allow MacKeeper advertising to be displayed? Please explain this to me.

Why does Wowhead allow MacKeeper advertising to be displayed? Please explain this to me.
First, reputation is everything. Maybe it's even another software using the same name.
Second, Wowhead doesn't hand-pick the ads it displays (except for the rare fullpage ads, but these are always gaming-related) it employs an ad provider, like almost every other site running external ads. You'd have to ask this provider why they don't screen their ads more.
Use
these instructions
on a page that shows this ad to help Wowhead blacklist it. This is mostly for ads that play sound, cover site content etc., but also illegal/fraudulent ads. Ads targetting specific, lesser-used operating systems will of course go unnoticed/unreported for longer.(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##Thank you Nulgar.
