Hi, and apologies in advance for the wordy post. :P
I'm aware that the realm hopping system was changed dramatically in order to limit realm hoppers' activities and the annoyance they often cause groups. (
This is one of the better explanations I've seen.) The new system has been *buggy however, and I understand it was to be reworked. I've seen a lot of folks hoping that Blizzard would just revert to the previous system where an entire group is transferred to a group leader's given realm, but I'm sceptical that Blizzard would totally abandon the new system. Particularly considering that it was implemented for the specific reason of stunting realm hopping activities.
Does anyone know what the situation is now? I do understand the annoyance realm hoppers can cause, but changing the entire system seems like overkill to me. Now if you want to find that a rare (take the Time-Lost Protodrake, for example) you'll have to do regular old camping on your realm alone, since there will be few (if any) groups up specifically for that zone of legacy content.
*A good example would be drowned mana farming in Dalaran. I've lead several groups like this, and have experienced this problem often. From what I understand, under the new system, this zone will be flagged and transferred to my realm
only if I am at said zone myself and stay there. (If I leave the zone without leaving the group and there are no others from my realm in my group in that zone, the group as a whole will not be on my realm anymore. Right?) Since I'm fishing and there's no real need to run around, I stay in the said zone, and so I would assume that everyone who joins my group will be transferred to my realm. Unfortunately however, there are always a few people who do not get phased to my realm, and are left stuck wherever they are and can't see the majority of the party. Even if they leave the zone and/or my group and come back, they are still not phased to my realm. I've found that if you aren't properly phased to start, there's nothing you can do to fix that bug, and it's best just to move on to a different group entirely.
Disclaimer: I write all this assuming I understand the (needlessly complicated) new system properly. If I've misunderstood, please do correct me!)
