Why heirlooms need to be removed!

I more or less agree, but I wouldn't just settle for Cata considering even Cata content is starting to look dated and there is a problem of lacking depth further emphasized by Cata-style leveling, such as a divergence of solo leveling choice (because it's mostly just "quest a lot"). Mists leveling appears to be the best fit in recent memory that would fit this requirement of diverse solo leveling choices.
I loved leveling through Uldum and Hyjal in Cata. (Uldum was where we met Harrison Jones and relived all the Indiana Jones movies, right? The big desert zone?) I loved how Hyjal transformed as you leveled through it from a burning wasteland into a green and verdant zone by virtue of us "saving" everything through the quests.
As far as MoP, I loved the Jade Forest and all of the quest zones there. I also enjoyed the Valley of the Four Winds. For me personally, the other zones weren't that memorable. I do remember being greatly saddened in 5.3 when they destroyed the Vale to further Garrosh's plan...I'd love to have a questline to go back and restore that zone to how beautiful it was before SOO. I'd even settle for a figure like they have outside the Portal and Theramore that lets you visit a zone before it was destroyed. At least I could relive the greatness then.

A lot of that was because of the questing itself, which was great but not necessarily a good fit for everyone. I remember the extent of substantial side content was a whopping total of one or two challenge encounters throughout all the 80-85 zones which indicates that there could've stood to be more variety beyond following linear questlines. Also, as someone who chose Hyjal first, I later learned not all was great in Cata zones since Vashj'ir was apparently glitched (mainly the last quest) among other issues.

MoP questing-wise was very similar to Cataclysm (not even sure what Krasarang Wilds was trying to be). Quest chains were pretty linear but by that point, it was old hat compared to Cataclysm. That's probably a major contributor as to why the content probably ended up feeling underwhelming (though to be fair Dread Wastes was just horrible). Thing is I personally also found Kun'lai and Townlong rather memorable as well between scaling Neverest and defeating the Sha of Hatred as an end boss.
But that's not what made MoP leveling more compelling by comparison. What made it interesting was that there were other sources of experience beyond questing and they were surprisingly viable ways to level up. For example, treasures gave insane experience when looted. Hunting down the relatively challenging spawns was also a viable way to level, if not provide an excellent supplementary source. Both of these were utilized and bastardized to a point in Warlords, though the design was still effective and the problem became more apparent at level cap, not leveling.
Pretty much what I'm trying to say is Mists leveling improved upon Cata leveling with some side things that the player can do if they don't want to quest.
Oh and yes it would be nice to have access to a pre-destroyed Vale again.

I have played a very long time and acquired most of the heirlooms.. if I choose to level another character to add to the huge number of max level toons I already have I feel I have earned them well and do not agree with removing them at all.. it does not remove my ability to be social. I've been through every quest in the game several times so skipping through levels quickly after years of play are well earned.. The heirlooms are not the cause of some of the social problems in this game.. that's a whole other subject within itself.. no take candle! :-)

The game reflects society. Once upon a time when people were together in a waiting room, or waiting in a line, or at a restaurant, they would occasionally strike up conversation. Now everyone has their nose downwards, their eyes glued to their phones. Even at social gatherings people will whip out their damned phones, choosing to interact with others electronically instead of the people they are physically with. They prefer messaging and texts and posts to eye contact or verbal communication. Friendly, sustained contact with strangers can now be considered an art since it is very rarely witnessed. If you think this patently wrong or exaggerated, try to have a conversation with a stranger the next time you find yourself in a waiting room. You'll more than likely find the other person to be flustered and uncomfortable with the experience and the 'conversation' likely won't last more than a minute.
People are less social today than ever before. The game isn't to blame. Neither are heirlooms.

With that said, anonymity online doesn't really help the situation much. In that sense the game can be "blamed" if only for being a multiplayer game. Interesting that there's other people out there who came to a similar conclusion as I did that society has gotten less social though. Might be a fun topic to discuss on OT.
