Battle Cleric: A Holy Paladin's Perspective has a lot of answers to the questions you have and some answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet. If you just hit 70 there is no way you are ready for heroics. Sorry but unless you dinged 70 with 1200+ healing it's time to gear up...
Step 1) Go buy any of the
Crusader's Ornamented Battlegear that is an upgrade for you and gem it up.
Step 2) Do BGs and run some instances for
better gearStep 3) ???
Step 4) Profit

Aint Heroics harder than Kara for Healers and Tanks (they are off-healers/tanks) but Heroics easier than Kara for DPS?
They are for me, as a Holy Paladin. With ~1700 +Healing, I still have to be on the ball in order to keep a tank up in some of the harder heroics. Tanks in PuG heroics are often undergeared and want an unreasonable amount of +Healing to make up the deficit in their gear as well.
I would suggest actually holding off on heroics until you've got your basis gear set for Kara. I think part of the reason why Kara tends to be easier for healers is, even though you've got double the number of people to a heroic you also have another healer or two (as well as probably two tanks) to take up the slack.
You'll want to do a search using filters for Healing plate gear rewarded by quests level 65 and up. Don't be afraid to use a piece or two of cloth, leather, or mail healing gear - but if you're like me, always be looking for the plate upgrade from one of the lesser armor types.
If you've got time to do your dailies, err, daily for about a week and a half, you'll have the Shattered Sun rep to buy
K'iru's Presage, which is an excellent healing mace - better than
The Essence Focuser, which you can buy off the AH for ~30g, but might as well make money from your dailies and get a better mace at the same time IMO.
Next, if you don't mind PvP, the
Vindicator's Ornamented Bracers and
Vindicator's Ornamented Greaves are amongst the best plate healing wrists and feet you can get outside of Karazhan, and they're not that terribly difficult to get - just under 30k honor, 40 EotS Marks, and 20 WSG Marks.
Lastly, if you can get a good CC group together, run Magister's Terrace and try to get Kael'thas to drop
Helm of Santification. Compare this to your possible tier 4 helm drop from Prince in Karazhan -
Justicar Diadem - and you'll see why it's worth grabbing if it drops before you're running Kara back-end. It's good enough that I would probably pass on the tier 4 drop if it was a larger upgrade for someone else that could use it. Of course, I'm a nice guy like that, so... ;)
Corrected my brain-fart - don't get Veteran's PvP gear, go with Vindicator's

I'd like to point out 1 thing that a lot seem to miss... Never.. ever buy the veteran version of anything... except the ring. In ALL cases the Vindicator set is better... and still bought with honor. (thank you Blizz )

Valundar: Thanks for the correction. I'm going to fix my links - I
meant the Vindicator gear, heh. It's what I'm wearing. I just brain-farted.
No really. Check my armory link, heh:

While you're grinding to get one of those necklaces from PvP, btw, if you've continued doing your SSO dailies, you can pick up the
Shattered Sun Pendant of Restoration, which is a good option as well. The PvP neck is pretty sweet though.
