Why do you want Elemental Warding? For levelling I can't imagine you're going to get hit by frost or nature spells too much and the points you have in resto would, I assume, negate that damage anyway.
I'm currently levelling a Shaman, and I too had the intention of being resto (levelling with my housemate who's rolling a tankadin), but with enough intellect (and I chucked a golden spellthread on some pants) I just downrank my spells to save on the mana/cast time and go crazy when the chain lightning/fire nova cooldowns are up.
You said that you weren't sure between convection and concussion - which shows that you are planning on using shocks and lightnings, so I think you need to go into why you want to level as resto a little bit more. Looking at the trees, the resto talents don't really scream "use me to level!" until Earth Shield. For me, Nature's Swiftness is on too long a cooldown to be used effectively, and you'd probably use it for CL anyway.
As someone who was originally in your position, but went elemental for the hell of it, I can only say that the instances have been nerfed, ALOT (I didn't actually know this had happened) but it seems that everything is around 2 levels lower, yet awards the same loot. You can heal instances far easier than before.
I know you said you want to level as resto, but I think you need to clarify just why it is that you want to.

-edit- Elemtental warding is so you take less damage from fire frost and natures spells from anything that would do damage to you from personal experiance with out this i died more often with out it than i did with it during karazan.
Yeah, I know what it does. My point being though, that when levelling, you're not going to meet much fire frost or nature damage. It tends to be purely physical and shadow from what I've seen. If he did not take EW as a talent, but instead went fully resto, the healing from resto would totally overpower the extra damage taken from missing out EW.
I'd rather have more points in Concussion and Convection, since having any points in the Elemental tree suggest he wants to be firing off lightning bolts anyway.

Its mostly for end game raids and the such with everything doing fire damage frost damage and nature damage.
And this is for levelling, not endgame.

I went for Elemental Warding mainly for the slight additional survivability, but you're right as far as it not being for the sake of levelling given my first 41 points are all going into the resto tree to get Earth Shield asap, so it would probably be one of the last talents I'd take. The Convection/Concussion dilemma is mainly just born out of the need to pick one of the two to get down to Elemental Warding, not a mad desire to try to play dps while taking the resto tree
My point wasn't so much that you'd be losing points from resto, more that the points would probably be more effective putting them in say, 4 Concussion and 4 Convection. I'd assume you'd be using a fair few shocks in your solo gear (although I only started my shaman 2 weeks ago :)) for questing, and certainly PvP. Plus you say you're going for Earth Shield as soon as possible, and the anti-spell-interrupt is (I guess) great for getting LBs off.
I'm basically trying to keep my character as a healer, there's no question about that. I'm just trying to determine where I can take points away to make him more effective for solo and pvp without resorting to a full on pvp build. The 3 points from Tidal Focus looks like one of those places I can take from, but really I probably need to sit down and work out the numbers to be sure.
That's fair enough. The more experienced guys can help you out a little better, I'm sure ;)
Will reply later, need to go raid ;o

Just wanted to add, that you said you wanted to be more effective in PvP, right? Now I've not actually engaged in any Shaman PvP just yet, but I'd imagine a bonus to EB totem's range would actually prove more beneficial than frost, fire and nature damage reduction.
Maybe thats just because I now play a shadow priest and regularly get beaten on by melee, though.

Why did you necro this old thread? The last post was in June of last year. -_- And the first post was back when it was good to go elemental and take elemental warning.
