Yeah, I did this mistake a while ago, I dinged my druid to lvl 70 just by skilling up my LW, got greedy on gold and dumnep it for gathering proffesions.
Now I hate myself because I realize that I could've made myself most of the epic items rather than grind Badges of Justice of BG's, I would really advice u atleast get all the epic armor for yourself, and I mean all of it available, u can by patterns of AH, and even then, u can start make loads of money buy selling crafts, leg enchantments and Heavy Knothide Leathers.
P.S. To sell crafted items most of the time u don't even need to farm mats, just buy them of AH and add extra 20-50% to you final price.
Good luck, hope not too late to save u xD

Skinning and Leatherworking make me decent gold on my hunter, in fact, more then Enchanting and Tailoring on my mage. A lot of it comes from the Armor Kits and leg enchantments, but a good chunk of it also comes from the skinning,
Cobra Scales
and
Thick Clefthoof leather
are a couple of great money makers on my server.
The biggest advantage with Skinning is that I don't have to depend on luck to find a mining node, or an Herb plant. I go to nagrand, and kill beasts, then skin them. No flying around hoping for a yellow dot to appear on my minimap.
