There is a lot of useful information here. Keep up the good work!
You could add (if no one else has) that ranged dps should stay ranged. I puged a nexus hc with two locs and a mage. They used aoe all the time from a 0 yard range and would often pull aggro from tank. They died several times because didn't have time to get aggro back and I couldn't heal them.

3, i know this may sounds a bit critisim, but a good paladin tank should use devotion aura simple bcs we already have massive aoe generating spells like hammer of rigtoeuss, consecration, holy shield and with undead holy wrath. A good tankadin have improved dev specced this means higher armor and 6% more healing recevied.

Great guide!
And rogues when you fing stun lock a mob especially right at the start of a pull all you do is starve your tank (feral/prot war), if the has no rage he cannot use skills used to hold aggro, next thing you know wipe. Tank who use rage bars want to be hit, want to be damaged so they can do the job unless rogues think they can evade tank sucessfully. Use garrote as your opening move if stealthed, or go unstealthed and start up your snd/rupture rotation.....use stuns only when the situation calls for it.
My main is a rogue, and I totally agree with this. I only stun in case of an emergency (tank almost dead or to save the healer-
nothing
else). And evade tanking does work.... but alot of my 'colleagues' forget evade only has a short duration and after that we're food. And after a vanish the mobs will probably go for the healer since you didn't take the f#cking skull but tried to solo a mile away from the tank. I hate all dps who do this, but rogues in particular because they give me a bad name =p
In summary, try your hand at tanking if you've never done it before, it will give you an appreciation for the great jobs great tanks do for you. Don't be afraid to kick someone from the group if they refuse to go with the consensus of the group. Attack the tanks target always unless told to do otherwise. And, for pete's sake, get OMEN and learn to use it you n00bs! ;-)
I don't have to. I already greatly appreciate tanks. And I try making their job as smooth as possible. I pop tricks of the trade on them at the beginning of each fight, use feint when I
suspect
a mob is going to attack me, and 90% of the time I don't get aggro for more then 1s, if I even get it at all. Most of the time I'm second/third in total damage done, but first in damage dealt per second. I wondered alot about that, but then I realized: I don't burst. I deal somewhat slower but consistent dps, easier for a tank to keep aggro on. I've gotten alot of comments from tanks and healers on a job well done, and criticism from other rogues on my low damage total..... I don't give a &*!@ about my damage, I want to survive and make sure the tank and healer do so too, tyvm!
Also: over the top dps = ~10 wipes = a minimum of 20 minutes lost on running back (usually more then 40)
slow but steady dps = no wipes = no running back a f#ckload of times = faster run, even if you take groups down slower.
(this calculation is based on numbers pulled out of my #ss but close to the truth, also based on having a decent tank and healer, and not being so epically geared you could probably run the instance solo)

My guild blows in regards to helping Heroics, so I PUG alot, in fact I'm pretty sure any instance that I've run has been a PUG.
As a Prot Warrior, i've found the difference between successful PUGS and unsuccessful PUGS is patience.
I've found the more geared out the DPS is the less patience they have for the group.
I've been in PUGS where one DPS asks me to Mark while the other says screw it What constantly blows my mind away is that it appears alot of people aren't inspecting thier groups gear...if they did they might realize that all of us are at different stages in gearing in the game and this will somewhat dictate how fast we move.
I love a good DPS. A good DPS knows how to stay at the top of the damage per second meter without giving a crap about total damage done.
I'm still a TANK in progress, but one thing I have noticed is that I have more difficult time tanking when the group is made up of all melee dps...any thoughts or advice would help alot.
In my mind any WOTLK Heroic should be completed in an hour or less, outside of certain Heroics that should be cleared in 30 min.
Amazingly the PUGs that get the instances done in these time frames appear to be ones where the group that allow the extra seconds for stacking threat, and not always going AOE but are spending the time to CC. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE.
This guide was awesome.
As a frost DK Tank, let me say, this is a nice guide. For my warrior tanking brother, let me help you out. I have been a holy priest, enhance shaman, Mutilate rogue, and now a dk tank, Warriors are great solo target tanks, best in the business and I love a good warrior tank, would trade my left arm for it since I only need one to swing my massive sword, anyways. For a warrior tank it is almost essential to always mark skull, you just don't build enough threat on aoe topics, also be sure to get your devestate going asap. The reason you are losing threat to melee more than casters is melee tend to target the closest guy to them which may not be the guy you are focusing on, this leaves you with the constant taunt off the melee.
So mark them up and if you have dps fighting in front of your target or fighting the wrong target. Kindly remind them that you are tanking after the pull is over, if they do it again don't taunt it off him for awhile and then remind him sternly that he is dps and should be behind the target, however if he wants to tank you are more than willing to allow him the honor of tanking the next mob. This will usually get them in the right direction. However if he does it again simply ask the healer not to heal him, and watch him die, after he is dead simply state, "That is why you should let me tank". If he continues to be a problem there is a quick method called /kick and you have no problem. Generally, I find after two reminders most dps will listen especially when they learn their dps will increase by not standing beside you.
To clarify this for everyone, Top of DPS bottom of total damage = bad DPS dealer. That means you are burst damaging and not staying in contact with your main target or you are dying because you are pulling off the target. Slow and steady means more total damage lower dps. A good dps will top the total damage meters depending on class and stay relatively high on dps without pulling threat off the tank.
For example, I was tanking for a Ret Pali who on the first 3 pulls dropped 4k in dps. At the time I wasn't geared to handle that amount of threat. I apologized for not holding the target, he said it was no worries, however for the rest of the instance he put out 2.8-3.2k dps which was the max he could do and I still hold a majority of the threat. That is a good dps. That and someone who realizes that you didn't notice that stupid pat that is headed toward the healer so they CC or smack it and bring it back to you.

the problem with this topic is that the idiots who screw up epically will never even read it.
So PUGs remain to be wasting of time/nerves.
