i think warlocks should be forced to choose between high damage output and cc (all the different fears).
You mean like rogues do? Fears aren't different, by the way - just different means of applying the same ability.
maybe have the overall success rate of fears be 50% or lower, then have a talent deep in one of the trees that increases it close to 100%. another idea would be to have any damage break the fear. either would make locks more balanced in 1v1 encounters.
As has been pointed out in forum after forum and by Blizzard poster after Blizzard poster, the game is not balanced around 1v1 encounters. There are some classes that are simply going to squash others. Nerfing fear even further removes the sole defense warlocks have - the one which is already easily counterable by anyone.
do you all think its fair to be able to chain fear? i cant think of a talent as powerful as that on either of my high level toons. think about it, i cant do ANYTHING when i am chain feared and am still taking insane damage from the warlock in the process.
Your failure to counter an ability is your problem. Trinkets, racial abilities, class abilities, interrupts, silences... Every class has a means of breaking or preventing fear. We will, for the moment, ignore the fact that each and every one of our forms of crowd control are on the same diminishing returns, unlike those of a rogue, a warrior, or a mage and that our own ability to silence, interrupt, etcetera without fear is dependent on having a PvP-specific pet available.
Furthermore, my ability to keep you under control is needed to be effective, period. My direct damage spells are slow. My burst ability is pathetic for a damage class. I have no means of escaping a fight. DoTs are just that - damage over time. It takes a long time for them to work, and every tick they make has a chance of breaking fear.
And I note you don't list what classes you've taken to high levels. I'll bet dollars to donuts that *I* can think of an equivalently powerful ability that you have access to on each of them. Well, unless you play a shaman. They're still hosed.
im looking for some insight into the lock world. what do you all think about your ability to chain fear and do high dmg?
serious responses only please.
We think you're dredging up the same old nonsensical arguments that we've heard dozens of times over and generally laugh at nowadays. You can find these threads going back YEARS on the official forums or any warlock forum. The horse is already dead, you can stop beating it.

Paladins are free game once they've bubbled. This occurs in any PvP situation whether it be BGs or Arenas. They can't dispel curses so a Curse of Tongues will absolutely destroy their ability to heal, and a well timed spell lock may even prevent you from bubbling. You're a holy paladin, you are a healer, expect %^&*y people to come up and challenge you.
BM hunter? I guess you haven't reached your end-tree talent yet, but once you do it's pretty much a 18 second God Mode increasing your damage by 10% and making you immune to
gasp
fears. Once you use it, you will realise how much warlocks are reliant on fear to deal damage and survive.
Again, warlocks do not have burst and even if they used a dd spell on a feared target, it will most probably break. The only burst class that can deal large amounts of
burst damage without breaking its CC
is a rogue, and we ALL know how broken that can be.

i think he met me this weekend in a AB run :P
I managed to chainfear kill a warrior who was mounted... :-)
But the story behind it is way more funny... I was going from farm to mine, and at the descend down the warrior was rushing to farm...
I thought, warrior *eek* so I hoped he kept running and I would go to mine... So we wouldn't have to fight each other...
Ofcourse he was thinking 'hey was that a warlock? EASY KILL!!!'
So he intercepted and hamstringed me...
What he doesn't know is that when mounted, the hamstring still makes me move faster then him, so I went back up and started going to black smit...
He mounted and began to chase me (so for a 2nd time I tried to let go and move on, but he followed me)
(bcs he mounted he lost his beserker stance -> big mistake)
I was so fed up, so I would give him my wrath back...
Turned around and opened with deathcoil and fear directly after it and started applying dots... watched to see if he trinketed out or used his stance to get out...
he didn't so i cast an other fear and killed him with 3 SB casts after it, with shadowburn ready if he still lived bcs of last stand or something...
i sat down on his head and began drinking/eating because i saw a rogue go to stealth about 50 yards away... *eek again someone wants a piece of me*
