Hack, Valence
Location:
Dun Morogh, Kharanos District
The ground floor was woefully empty of life. Valence was hardly going to give it an opportunity to prove otherwise, and promptly kicked down the door of the fire escape. The red of emergency lights washed across the climbing staircases. Every step Valence took echoed up and down the space. He moved quickly, but with care, gun drawn and ready, ears strained with the effort of listening.
On the sixth floor he paused. Footsteps not his own scraped from above. He listened and heard only the one. Gaining the landing, Valence raised his gun and aimed up the stairs. Closer came the steps, the sound now accompanied by a low moan like breathing through a filter, heavy and slow.
It turned the corner. Blue eyes glowed and stared at Valence. He fired.
The crack echoed up and down the stairs. The figure was hurled back and struck the wall, a gaping hole in its chest. It slid limp to the ground, and did not move.
Valence lowered his gun and climbed the steps. He looked down upon the body with pity. It had been a dwarf once, dressed in pajamas as though it had just been to bed. Its skin was grey as stone, veins standing out sharply in pulsing blue like a circuit board. This state was most noticeable near its eyes, splaying from there like cataracts, the orbs glowing and showing telltale markings of cybernetic enhancements. The same of the ear, a radio unit having been installed there, now expanded like a cancer of steel. He did not bleed. Not even from the gaping hole the bullet had punched clean through his chest. Within there was only dim sparks.
Valence watched as light faded from eyes and skin, the eyes pale orbs like burned out light bulbs, the veins blackened, the sparks silenced.
"Poor bastard."
It wasn't much of a eulogy, but it was all Valence had time for as he now took the steps two at a time. The roof, he knew. Hack would be on the roof.
He would pay.

Lucien ducked instinctively at the gunfire. Glancing up, however, he recognized the noise as Hannah's rifle. Gulping, he scaled the truck's passenger side, pulling the door open as the driver fumbled with his glove box.
The large man looked up in surprise. "Excuse me." The boy stated, grabbing the man and dragging him out the door.

It took some time to reach the final steps. Just above them glowed a bar of sullen red light in a protective box. Leaning against the wall, gun still drawn, Valence tried to regain his breath from the climb, banish the exhaustion, and steady his hand for the shot he might have to take. Perhaps five minutes past before he felt himself ready. Valence crouched within his jacket like a coiled spring, wrapped both hands about the handle of his gun, and burst through the door.
High winds whistled from every direction. The sounds from the streets below echoed along buildings to arrive muted, vague, their meaning lost in the incomprehensible noise and distance they traveled. The glow of a thousand lights from streets below lit the faces of nearby buildings but failed to reach the flat surface of the roof leaving much in darkness.
The roof stretched before Valence like a giant checkerboard of concrete. And there, at the end, upon the very lip, stood a figure. Tall and lean with hands in the pockets of a long jacket, he stood at ease, a slender figure surveying the world from their mountaintop.
Valence took a step onto the roof, gun fixed unwavering on the figure. The top of a bald head twitched at the sound.
"Hack!" Valence shouted across the divide.
The figure turned slowly, carefully, as though to ensure everyone he wasn't going to make any sudden moves, because he didn't need to. A head rose from where it had been crouched in a high collar. Eyes like the sockets in a skull gleamed green, not the brilliant emerald of nature magic, but an ill green, a toxic glow. The same light spilled from two thin lines running the length of the figure's hairless black skull, dipping near the cheeks to jut sharply like the beat of a heart monitor to form two small fangs, before they met below a nose that was not there. His head, his skin, was black as pitch save where the green lines ran as though tracing the outlines of where he had been saudered together.
The green grinned.

"Until next time, then," I said, and stepped back out of the Dream.
Once I was back inside the physical world, I immediately set another layer of encryption around the port and set up a proxy. As I watched, the area around the port began to shimmer, then changed into a shifting mass of primordial Dream. The proxy would disguise its location from any outsiders (barring the serious hacking types) and make it harder to track my location and actions.
Once that was done, I made my preparations to meet with the other who had messaged me. A shield nodule came first, which I clipped to my metal shoulder. It powered up with a beep, followed by a steady hum.
I then grabbed a pistol and slung it into a holster on my shoulder. It might look slightly odd, but it was certainly faster than drawing it from my waist.
Lastly, I slipped on a set of sunglasses to go with the hat. It served three purposes:
To further disguise my face (even if just a small amount).
I could project a HUD on the inside, which allowed me to have two separate, overlapping displays: one on the lenses and one on my actual eyes.
It looked nice.
With that, I stepped back into the Dream, this time far from the port I had been at before.
It didn't take me too long to reach the basement of the EleCo building. I had learned several shortcuts I could take for it, which let me get there around half an hour before the appointed meeting time. I remained in the Dream, however, and watched the garage.

Hack, Valence
Location:
Dun Morogh, Kharanos District
Wholebred! What a surprise.
Valence winced at the chirping voice. It was a sound, playful and cheerful, but artificial, the sound something made to sound impossibly chipper. Fake, pretty, like the pattern on a butterfly's wings that told those who knew it was poisonous, and those who did not to touch.
Valence slowly began to approach. Shoes crunched on gravel. Easy steps, always the pistol remaining fixed on the figure's chest.
"Hack. Leader of the Hackers, you're under arrest for murder, terrorism-"
Black fingers, long and sharp like ebony talons, gestured with excitement at Valence.
Oh! New gun is it? Looks like a much higher caliber than before. Did you get it just for me? How thoughtful! The last one didn't have nearly enough stopping power, after all.
"Shut up."
How are those new scars? Healing alright?
"Shut up! Put your hands up. Now! I'll shoot!"
Can't do that Wholebred. I'm unarmed. Shooting me's against the rules. You wouldn't want to break your rules, would you? You're not allowed.
With a click the hammer was pulled back. "Don't tempt me. Now hands up!"
Grinning, two arms rose in perfect L shapes. Hack suddenly spun around, balancing precariously on the rim of the roof, arms still high. Valence had nearly pulled the trigger, but Hack did nothing else. Valence resumed his wary approach like a man wondering if the animal before him was rabid or just sick. The problem was, Valence already knew. The answer was both.
I like tall buildings.Everyone looks like little bugs from way up here.
"I bet we all seem that way to you," Valence growled, his scars tight, incing closer, closer, every second.
Not at all!
The head spun about without moving the torso.
After all, you're up here with me!
Valence grit his teeth. He stopped several yards from the other. "Hack! Get down from there."
I got them all you know.
"What?"
The face leered, still backwards upon its torso, just peeking over the collar.
Everyone! Not a soul left in the building. I got them all. So many recoded. Oh. You call them Slashers now don't you? You all can be so creative! I love it! Do you ever wonder? Maybe I do it to see what you'll do next. Isn't it grand! Everything is so malleable if you know how to tweak it. How to adjust things just so. It's a wonder!
Valence felt his face grow even tighter. His finger itched against the trigger. The muzzle rose, aiming for the grinning face. "Hack! I'll shoot! This one won't tickle. It'll blow a damn hole right through you! Get down from there and lie down on the ground, hands behind your back."
You won't shoot.
"Hack! I won't repeat myself. Get away from the ledge." The gun twitched like an attack dog pulling at their leash. "Do it now!"
Valence saw the grin grow even wider, and realized his mistake.
If you insist.
He was a second too slow. The gun recoiled, the bullet snag, missed, for Hack had already vanished over the edge.

I waited until about five minutes were left before our scheduled meeting time, then exited the Dream outside of the garage. I entered slowly, acting as though I needed to wait for my eyes to adjust to the darkness. After a moment, I called out, "Hello?"
My actions, combined with my appearance (that of a Stormwind noble's son) would hopefully lead this supposed contact into a false sense of security. If he thought he was ripping off some kid, he might be unprepared.
And that's the best kind of opponent to have.

: Kardys
Location
: Undercity
The room was dark, barring a stream of cold blue, red and green light shining from a stained glass window set high into the wall. What had once been a chapel of the Light had long been swallowed by the spreading slums, which had no need to be respectful of such a place. Looted, trashed and despoiled, it had eventually been forgotten as the sprawl moved on.
Now, only a few knew of its presence, nestled in the hills of Lordaeron. Despite its obvious squalor, it was, in fact, above ground. This explained the moonlight shining through the window, which depicted a paladin, one of the might warriors of the Silver Hand.
The fact that the chapel was used for exactly the opposite never failed to amuse Kardys.
The hooded and robed figure stepped from the shadows around the altar. "Sisters, brothers," he intoned in a rasping, quiet voice, laying a piece of machinery onto it. "We have had a gift bestowed upon us."
It seemed like nothing special: an oblong disk of beaten bronze, with a crystal surface and several switches set into the side. However, all but one of these switches was rusted into immobility. This was the switch that, with a flick of of long, skeletal fingers, he flipped to the "on" position.
"Long have I conversed with the machine spirit contained within," he said, tapping the device with one finger. His piercing gaze swept among the congregation from beneath his hood; his face, covered with a steel breath mask, revealed nothing. "And staunchly it did deny its secrets from me. Until now."
He stepped away from the machine, which whirred to life. A holographic form flickered to life above the device, depicting what appeared to be a map. "This, brothers and sisters," Kardys said softly. "Is a map of Jaedenar."

"Depends on how much you have to offer," I said with a shrug, leaning against the wall and sizing up the buyer warily. He looked... off. It was weird.

Well, that could have gone better.
Sasha sighed. That data could probably sell for a pretty credit. And she really did enjoy having money.
Grumbling, the woman turned, stepping out of the Dream and back into the streets of Stormwind.
Lucien Greyfang
Trade District, Stormwind Back
Lucien pulled the passenger door shut, locking the driver's as the guards quickly scaled the truck. Quietly, he hoped they weren't about to go testing the bulletproof glass.
Reaching down, the boy grabbed the stick shift, cranking the vehicle into drive. With force, he jammed his foot down onto the gas pedal; the squeal of tires drowning out the sound of the engine.
Still, the truck failed to move, and after a moment, the boy realized the cargo had been braked. With haste, he reached for the ceiling; flicking switches as soon as he could find them.
There was a hiss, and the cargo released from the truck; said armored vehicle suddenly taking off like a horse at a race. With a groan, the magnets holding the back door closed lost power; the metal falling to the ground and creating a crude ramp.
Gritting his teeth, Lucien pulled the wheel to the side, the truck very quickly rising up from four wheels to two.
"Well... %^&*..." He managed to blurt out as realization hit him; the world beyond the windshield turning on it's side.

I raised an eyebrow. "I'll have to do a bit of shopping around, but this is my opening price," I said, flicking a hand in the air. A sum of credits appeared next to me, glowing softly in the darkness.

With a screech, the truck toppled; glass shattering as it impacted pavement. The passenger door flew open, Lucien leaping free as the vehicle grinded along the ground; rolling as he landed.

Getting to his feet, Lucien moved quick; rushing before the guards opened fire, bullets peppering the ground at his feet.
"!@#$, $%^&, !@#$!" He yelled; rolling behind the truck. Bullets bounced off the armored hull, offering him brief protection.

Aren't you supposed to negotiate prices down?
... apparently someone really wants this info. Play it cool. "A respectable offer," I said carefully. "However, I do have other interested parties. You're leading the bid, but I'm going to give them a chance to counter offer. I'll send you a message tomorrow morning to let you know if you've won."

"Alright, time to make our exit!" Lucien shouted over the gunfire. Reaching into his coat, he retrieved a trio of small orbs; tossing them in multiple directions.
Glowing brightly a moment, the orbs exploded suddenly; black smoke filling the scene as Lucien quickly began to move to the back of the truck, grabbing Hannah and dragging her back to safety. Shouts filled the air, guards trying to spot them through the smoke.
