You can both Eat
and
Drink at the same time.
There is no "best" class, profession, way to play, etc. Play the way that suites you and just have fun, it is a game after all.
Set your Hearthstone in Dalaran early on. It'll save you long trips cross continents for some quests.

For me I like keeping a variety of characters’ at different levels. I know in some eyes they think you will never get anywhere by working more than a few at a time, which is true to a point but it also allowed me to indentify the characters’ I wanted to take all the way to 80 which was my warrior. While playing other characters’ I was able to learn their strengths and weaknesses. I now have a 20, a 40, a 70 and my 80
Always rest your main toon and get rested experience. Never leave him outside a major city where he/she will not get the rested exp.
Keep up with your professions this allows for a break in the grinding and questing and allows you to make some money to support your have's and need's for me I liked going to the AH to buy top gear, its what allowed me to do 60 quests when I was only a 56 with no problems, but for allot of people they don’t like the AH and are more money conscience in saving it, although I do agree with saving to get your fast mount and flying mounts as early as possible.
The most important thing is have fun, be cool to other players and manage your time cause its just a game!

1. Have as much fun as possible (includes picking a class you like)
2. be determined, dont give up at lvl 40 like most do, makeing it to endgame on your first character is very satisfying
3. if an item gives you 20 attack power, it doesent mean 20 raw damage points :D

1. Pick a class with a playstyle you enjoy and don't worry about racials.
2. Get two gathering professions (or a manufacturing profession that makes tons of $).
3.LEVEL COOKING, FISHING, AND FIRST AID! I learned this the hard way, had to spend hours leveling them at 80, they are a huge help to have while leveling!

1. Choose the character you like and the Race / Class. Race might depend on racials, so check forums for the racials that would benefit your class.
2. Get a Fun, Active and Friendly guild to explain you about the game and they might want to help you.
3. Enjoy the game and have Fun.
PS: Dont get too adicted to World Of Warcraft.

1) Use time to explore different aspects of the game, in case any of them should be more attractive to you.
2) Try to keep your two proffesions up to date, you will love it once you get the benefit from it.
3) Don't waste money on gear while leveling, just pick up quest-rewards and stuff you loot.
