Hi,
Seeing that I have no interest in Pet Battles, are all my pets now useless?
I used to enjoy having one out following me around, and I can't do that now, right?
So, they're just sitting in the tab doing absolutely nothing for me.
Cheers.

You can still summon them and have them follow you around.
They weren't useful for anything other than that to begin with.

Really? I couldn't figure that out from the new interface. How do I do that?
Cheers.

Just right click them and select summon from the drop-down menu, or put them on your hotbar somewhere.

Or click on the big red summon bar at the bottom of the pet tab; same place it is on the mount tab.

As do I (well, mounts atm). Thanks for all the help everyone, I'll try it tonight.
Hey Mods - go ahead and move to WoW Help if you want.
Cheers.

Hi,
Seeing that I have no interest in Pet Battles....
Battles with the masters aside, you are seriously passing up the opportunity to capture all those new pets and add to your companion pet number?

I don't see why it's such a big deal that he doesn't want to do pet battles. Most people don't participate in every aspect of the game - it's about finding the parts you find interesting and working on those. Companions were brought in to be non-combat pets, and there's no reason to admonish folks who want to keep them that way.

I am with Lanky here, I currently have no interest in pet battles.
And no I have never played Pokemon and have no desire to do so. because something is a current fad does not mean everyone will enjoy it.

Cool your jets, that wasn't an admonishment, just surprise that Lanky isn't into padding his Companion Pet army.

Another question.
Am I limiting the amount of Pets I can have, because I don't do Pet Battles?
That is, are there any pets available from doing Pet Battles with NPCs that I can't get any other way?
EDIT: Sigh - I guess I need to make a new thread about it. Doesn't look like anyone's bothering to look here anymore.
Cheers.

Yes, there are oodles of pets you can't get any other way. Each zone has at least one pet that is absolutely unique to that zone, and metric tons of pets were added that are available in multiple zones but only as battlepets.
I collect them as I go along while levelling. I find it faster to do that way and I make sure I have at least one of each zone's unique pets before I move on (preferably rare quality, but I don't beat myself up about it). On my Horde project toons I collect the pets from the Horde starting areas, and ditto for the Alliance ones. Contested zones I collect pets on whoever.
And to clarify, pets are collected by battling them out in the world, not by battling the Masters. Basically, you see a pet with the green paw icon, you click it to enter battle, take it down to less than 35% health and the ability to cage it is activated. Attempt to cage it till successful and voila, you have a new pet in your roster. Use the same couple of pets to level them up. Battlepets out in the world have levels which increase as the level range of each zone increases, so you will want pets of your own that can meet or surpass the level of the pet you are battling in order to defeat it and cage it.
Its actually kind of a relaxing diversion for when you want to play but don't want to do anything terribly time consuming.

Open your pet book, turn on the 'not caught' filter and look at the mass of mini-pets that are taunting you.

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation.
