Peter was silent for a long moment. Merely staring speculatively at the stag, unseeing.
Finally, he sighed and rose to his feet. "Should find somewhere to sleep. Probably. Most likely. Cathedral, I suppose. Don't feel like it. But, necessary." He turned away, but paused. He looked back at the stag.
"Thank you. For listening," he said before starting away.

Peter trotted through the silent night streets of Stormwind. The lapping waters of the canals and the glow of lamps his guide down the streets, and towards the spires of the cathedral which jutted before the moon like great dark gashes.

Peter stopped in the middle of the street as the trot of hooves from behind reached him. He slowly looked back at the stag.

Peter felt he should be disturbed by the stag, but was simply so mentally and emotionally exhausted, he found it difficult to care. With a final shrug, he continued on his way, eventually coming to the monolithic Cathedral. He slowly climbed the alabaster steps to the entrance, knocking lightly on the door.

The small wooden portal at the top of the door slid open, a curious pair of eyes staring out.
"Hello?"
Peter smiled tiredly at the door. "Hello, sir. My name is Peter. Wandering monk. Came to the city, just today. Looking for shelter. For the night. A cell, if it you please. Nothing more."
The eyes looked at the monk a moment more before they glanced to the stag.
"...and the beast?"

"...I...suppose its with me," Peter said, looking back to the eyes. The man at the gate peered at the priest for a long moment. The peephole was shut, and the sound of locks being drawn creaked out from the door before it slowly swung open.
An older priest, dressed in white robes with a beard stretching from his chin to his waist peered out at them.
"Very well. But, you must clean up after your creature. Accept that, and you may stay in one of the novice cells."
Peter smiled gratefully, but wearily. He bowed slightly. "Thank you, father. Appreciate your hospitality.
The ancient priest seemed to smile beneath the white whiskers which draped his face.
"Not at all young man. Not at all. Come, please. It's a cold night out there, and dark things are done beneath the light of such moons."
Peter's face grew strained at the offhand remark. He looked back at the silver moon hanging in the sky sorrowfully. "Yes," he murmured, turning his back on the night and stepping inside the cool walls of the cathedral. "Yes, there are."

The old priest led them through the silent halls of the cathedral. Here and there candles burned before icons and upon their holders. legion of small lights, holding the infinite darkness at bay. Peter and the stag were led to the rear of the church, through a door and the cramped living quarters.
The cell they were led to was very spartan, with noting more than a bench and bedroll, pillow, a chamber pot and a wash basin upon a stool.
"Here, you can stay here for the night," the priest said, passing Peter the candle.
Peter smiled. "Thank you. Appreciate this. Heartily. Very long and...trying, day," he admitted.
The old priest smiled and patted Peter on his shoulder. "Be strong, child. The world is a fearsome place. We must merely live in it, and do our best to make it better." Peter nodded and bowed his head, the old priest making a sign over him before departing.
Peter turned to the cell and entered it softly, sitting down upon the wooden cot heavily.

Peter sighed. So ti was a puma now. Such was life. For all he knew, it could be a trick of the candle light against the moon, or the animal merely switched out and his exhausted mind failed to spot them when they switced. Idly, he ran a hand gently down the cat's soft but muscular back as he placed his pack on the ground. Reaching in one handed, he produced a small red journal, then quill and ink well.
He opened the journal to a new page. Dipping the quill in the ink, he wrote down the date and brought the quill to the first line.
Only to pause there. He held the sharp end of the quill above the page, unsure how to put the emotional and mental storm he had just experienced not hours before into mere words.

Peter eventually simply sighed, and put the quill to paper.
Today, Irene departed from my company.
And that was all he wrote. Stoppering the ink pot and depositing them all back into the backpack, he proceeded to undress, laid down on the hard wooden cot, pulled the blanket up, and fell into a fitful and deep sleep.

Peter slept like the dead all night, edging into early afternoon the next day when he finally rose. Beams of sunlight cut through the small window overhead as the priest sat up. He blinked the sleep from his eyes and attempted to rouse the beast atop him off.
