Peter flinched away at the touch. He turned eyes wide and filled with fear to the warlock.
For once, Max was too focused to quip at the dog. His foot finally reached the blade and tapped it.
The wheel began to click.

Meyer opened his mouth to say something, but before a single sound left his mouth Khadomo barked warningly.
"What is it now?" the warlock grumbled, beginning to turn around.

"What are the odds of me getting out of here?" Max asked thin air.
The clicking slowly ground to a halt.
"I'd say pretty good."
The sword flashed in blinding light.
It had turned into a bouquet.
The illusionist gaped the weapon. "Oh damn it all to fel!"

"Is this for me? Aw, you should not have," Meyer deadpanned.
Khadomo barked happily, wagging his tail.
"I would much appreciate you not distracting me for the moment, wielder of the sword spectacular, for I need to think. Lay still and you may get a chance to be heard out instead of winding up in the Stockades. Again," the warlock hissed, with a snap of his fingers sending a blast of compressed air into the bouquet, pushing it a few feet away from Max.
Satisfied, Wilhelm turned back to Peter.
"Now, listen to me. I am a warlock and you, with a name like that, must be either a priest or a paladin. But believe you me, kid, I wish to fix this mess, even if my reasoning for it may be less of generosity of soul and more preemptive action so that I am not settled with a mess a lot bigger in the near future. Likewise, I do not wish your runaway avenger girl to turn into a bloated, oozy cadaver - imagine the consequences for all the lawful, friendly neighborhood warlocks around here if that were to happen.
So. Are we going to work together, discussing the problems before us and formulating strategies that, hopefully, will make things better for everyone?"

"Hey! Leave my bouquet alone!" Max cried as the sword skittered across the grass, beginning to click once more.
Peter closed his eyes and sighed.
They suddenly snapped back open.
"Heavens!" he cried, holding a hand to his mouth in horror, "Elsa!" Sudden animation filled him, but it seemed to pull in all directions sending the priest fidgeting and shaking all over. His head twitched back and forth as though hoping to spot the thief like an overlooked sock. All the while he gibbered in rapid and incoherent fretting. "Forgot! But-here. No, that is...she...I-I-I...forgot! Left in chamber. But-that is...I, but...no...she...oh no...oh dear...oh dear...Elsa! I...I..."

Wilhelm grabbed the boy by the shoulders and gave him one forceful shake. Gaunt as the warlock was, he still was a mature human as opposed to Peter's teen age.
"You need to focus. The chamber you mentioned - is it Reichten's hideout? I still intend to inspect it, then seal it, so wouldn't you like to tag along?"

"Let us go, then. Tarnik, stay there and help Khadomo watch the swearing swordsman. If he tries to escape, ask him nicely not to. If he does not comply, shove a fireball up his rectum."
"
Boss, are you speaking figuratively and letting me get creative in the ways I will stop him from escaping that leave little to no permanent damage to his system while at the same time being extremely painful and unsanitary - or are you being literal there, boss?
" Tarnik squeaked cheerfully, hopping off Meyer's shoulder and skipping across the burnt grass.
"I think I'll let you figure that one out, Tarnik," the warlock said maliciously, gesturing for Peter to lead the way.
"
Woo! I love figuring stuff out!
" the little imp giggled excitedly.

"Y-yes. Yes, let us...do that," Peter said shakily.
"I bet you do. Here's something. What my foot plus your face equal? It equals pain, if that wasn't clear. Pain in your face, and a bootprint. Or..." he looked t the imp's head. "Maybe half a print," Max explained to the imp, his eye twitching slightly in frustration.

"
Aw, don't be like that, big guy. We're all buddies here. I'm Tarnik, as you've heard, unless you were too busy figuring out more creative ways to swear, and what's your name?
" the imp asked, squatting near Max's face and tilting his horned head to the side.
Meyer walked towards and through the door leading into the coven, the energy halo around the blade of his scythe lighting the way for the two. The warlock leaned the weapon against a wall and rummaged through the pockets on the inner side of his velvet jacket; after a while he fished out a gold device in the shape of a large disc and resembling some sort of a very advanced astrolabe, and a small peridot crystal that he inserted into a socket in the middle of the disc. The device clicked and whirred as numerous runes carved into its surface lit up with soft green light and its parts rearranged themselves at breathtaking speed.
"There we go," Meyer nodded to his thoughts, producing a silk strap that he attached to the disk, then hung it on his neck.

Peter stayed well behind the warlock.
Max huffed and turned to stare straight up. "My name is Noneayurbeeswax Sothere. It's Alteracian, very popular."

Athenari leaned forwards to the corporal and whispered to his ear so that he and only he would hear. "And she don't have anything beneath her armour." Hoping for a amusing reaction.
"Understandable. No Darnassian." Lyshalis said in her musical voice waving her hand in the air before placing it on her waist, at the side of her leather loincloth. She had been uncomfortable by the young mans staring but did in no way show it.

The corporal's eyes went wide, looking like they would pop out of his skull at any moment.
The sergeant cleared his throat again, spurring the boy into action. "Err, right, yeah," he muttered, giving Lyshallis' armour one last nervous look, before walking towards the garrison with an expression of forced calm upon his face.
The two regulars fixed bayonettes and flanked the group, herding them in the right direction.
"Well this sucks," Nimrod complained, clearly no less angry than before.
Elsa Wolftongue
Darkshire, Duskwood
Elsa sat in the corner of the inn, her fur cloak several times heavier than when she had first returned to Darkshire - or at least it should have been - considering the amount of hard earned gold it had accumulated,
other people's hard earned gold.
The pickpocket traced the design on one coin with her finger, contemplating ordering a drink or several hundred... After all, who the fel would miss her?

"It does, Nimrod," Kalina agreed.
Once they had gotten a little bit away from the main grouping of soldiers, she casually asked the boy leading them:
"Corporal, what can you tell me about the crows here?"

"
Ooh, fancy name! Are you related to the Ohthats and Buggeroffs of Middleofnowhere?
" Tarnik squeaked gleefully.
"
Seriously though, just because my boss is out to get your boss doesn't mean we can't be nice to one another.
"
Apart from an occasional annoyed grunt, Meyer worked in silence. He gathered the papers left behind, not bothering to read them yet. Every so often he would stop to paint an elaborate, twisted arcane symbol on the nearest flat surface after pressing a button or two on the golden disc and waiting for it to reconfigure.

The corporal gave Kalina another wary look, not often asked about the state of the carrion birds in the area. He made an odd gesture, superstitiously warding off evil spirits, when he thought she was not looking, in case the insanity was catching, then shrugged.
"Dunno, like regular crows I'd say, beats rations," he decided, after some thought, proceeding to knock on the garrison's huge double-doors.
