#238- Do you call/e-mail and complain about bad employees? Does it take a lot for you to do it, or is it something you do all the time?

We had this one guy working with us that was absolute *!@#. He caused so many more problems for us. We would constantly be IMing each other back and forth saying "oooh, looks like another one of his messes we have to clean up." Luckily he didn't stay long.

I mean more as a customer, do you ever do it? Like if you go to a business and someone is rude or doesn't do a good job or something?

Two years ago, I was called by a law firm in New York that had been given my number. The lawyer in question claimed that my cell phone number belonged to someone else. He was calling to inform me of my delinquency of payments on child support, and that the delinquency would result in legal action if I did not pay up. He called me by a name that was not mine, and told me that my voicemail message confirmed the name of the person he was looking for. I informed him that my number did not belong to the person he was trying to reach. I told him my name and I told him that I had no children, and that he could find this information easily if he would actually look or retry the number and listen to my voicemail message again. Instead of believing me and doing a simple fact-check, he told me that his firm's records were checked and updated frequently and he called me a liar. By now I was irate, so I hung up and immediately called the firm which he told me he represented.
I told the receptionist that I was not the person they were looking for, that they should take my number off of whatever document from which they got it, and I filed a complaint about the employee that was so unbelievably rude to me over the phone. I don't know if any action was taken after my call, all I know is that I haven't been called back by that law firm since.
I can understand being upset that a client isn't getting the child support payments he or she needs. It's a terrible thing for someone to do, not pay their child support. But, I was treated badly for something that couldn't possibly have been my fault. I haven't been to New York since I was 12, and I know for a fact that I didn't father any children while I was there. I'm sure I would have remembered the occasion. All of this could have been totally avoidable if he'd simply checked the number, which I honestly don't think even did in the first place.

Oh, from a customer stand point? I guess that makes it a little different. There has only been one time where I called and complained about one of the employees.
It was about a half hour before the store was to close, and I had to get a different shirt to wear for an event that was happening in about an hour. The first thing that was said to me was "You do realize we're closed and you can't buy anything." And although there was still a half hour left, they had already shut their terminals down and were having a couple wine coolers WHILE still in the store. I took my business down the street and called the next morning. Those girls got fired, and I don't feel one bit bad about it.

As a customer, it depends on whether it's apparent the employee has something more of a bad attitude/is not trying versus someone who is obviously new or making innocent mistakes.
That said, I don't usually complain. I find that a good amount of the time such complaints are more of a customer problem than an employee problem anyways.

If it's at a place where I spend a lot of time. For example, if the swimming hall hired a couple of guys who clearly don't have the attitude to work with people, potentially a lot of kids at that, I would make sure to mention it.
However, a grumpy lady in her fourties working at a local convenience store? Maybe, but somewhat unlikely.

I'd lived abroad for a while where it was just customary for employees to treat the customer badly. You couldn't complain because the highers-up would just treat you worse. I guess since I've been back in the States I've not been treated that badly anywhere, haha! So I don't complain. In general though I'm always stunned with what people can get away with without getting in trouble, personally at work I'd treated people well even if they seemed rude toward me, because professionalism was important to me.

237. Handling stained jock straps + curtains with piss on them and selling second hand underwear.
238. As a rule of thumb, I just don't complain about anything IRL. I once ordered a vegetarian pizza at a Zizzi, got a meat one and just ate it. Same thing at another pizza place, ordered Margherita, got pepperoni, but this time the guy took the pepperoni slices off the pizza for me. This is counterbalanced by one of the friends I usually accompany, who demands his popcorn be sweet at the bottom, salty in the middle and sweet at the top. We also went out to a restaurant where the bill came to over £10 per person and we hadn't left half an hour after the closing time. I paid £20 in, only for the woman to return and say that we were about a pound away from paying the bill.
That said, my mother once complained to a car company that said they'd provide us with an eight seater car on our arrival in the US and gave us an eleven seater two hours after we got there. She wrote to each member of the board, I think. Both the company and the insurance ended up refunding her and both said to keep the money when she pointed this out.

#239- What's your retirement plan?
In all honesty, the plan is to make a few million bucks before I'm 45-50, then settle down into semi-retirement while the kids are going to school, and running a few philanthropic / business ventures in my free time. The earlier I can fund that, the earlier I'll put that plan into action - nothing tying me to that retirement age.
