I wouldn't say I have a "best friend", really. Pretty much everyone I know annoys me in some way, so I don't tolerate them more than I have to/want to.
I have never been more offended.
Well I mean like people irl. Obviously you're flawless. <3

Of the 4 friends I would consider my best friends, I met 3 of them through mutual friends and one through work. How it all panned out is like this:
Ryan O
- A good friend Tristian that I met through work when I was 15 had been friends with Ryan since their early teens. Around January 2008, I was the only one of my friends who had my own place, so everyone used to be around at mine nearly every night, either to party or just to chill out and smoke weed. Tristian started bringing his friend Ryan around and I always got along well with him and we ended up finding a heap of different things that we connected over - such as our similar tastes in music, alcohol and good times. Within only 2 or 3 months we were great mates.
Since then Ryan has gotten a girlfriend (another good friend of mine, Katherine, who was also introduced to him through Tristian), and has settled down quite a lot and does minimal partying. In fact, they can both be pretty reclusive at times, so I don't speak to them a lot anymore (living in another state also contributes to that), but when we catch up it's like we were never apart. I can still say that through 2008 and 2009, some of the best times I've ever had in my life were with Ryan.
Brodie
- I also met Brodie in January 2008. I remember it was only a couple of days before his 19th birthday. Basically a girl Erin, who was a friend of mine at the time, and I were just hanging out one night, with some other bloke as well, cruising around in my car, and she suggested we go see her ex-boyfriend Brodie. She told me that he's an alcoholic but a good bloke. So we drove round to his house and he came out and jumped in the car, quite drunk. He was very cool, nonchalant and made me laugh. I remember we went to McDonalds and he sparked up a cigarette inside the restaurant. I laughed and said what are you doing and he said there's no sign saying No Smoking. I just laughed my arse off.
That night we got along like a house on fire and we became great mates almost immediately. Within days I was ringing up Brodie to hang out with him or vice versa. A few months later I ended up living with him for a short while. Since then, he descended into extreme alcoholism, became homeless, and now he's cleaned his life up and hasn't touched a drop for about 2.5 years but he's still the same smartarse and still makes me piss myself laughing. Out of all the guys here, he is the one who I am still extremely close with, even though I've moved interstate.
Ryan T
- Ryan became my boss around February or March 2008. We hit it off straight away. We connected due to our mutual love of alcohol, (at the time) partying, video games, Dragonball Z, and our laid-back attitude to our job. Having only known me for about 6 weeks, Ryan offered for me to move in with him when I lost my home due to some evil things that Erin (mentioned above) did. Of course we bonded even more closely then. I lived with him for about 2 months before moving in with Brodie and then onto another place for about 1.5 years, then ended up moving back in with Ryan for another 6 months.
Daryl
- I actually have no idea when or where I met Daryl. I think it was earlyish 2008, maybe February or March. The "how" part is easy - Brodie introduced me. I didn't like Daryl at first. I found him quite stand-offish and rude. Eventually we connected - I think it was over our mutual love for getting wasted on a cocktail of speed and alcohol. Then after that we went through quite a long period where we would spend every day together, going out and playing poker at local clubs every night and he would often end up crashing at my place. These days he has a kid, and his girlfriend also has a kid of her own, so he's settled down and hasn't touched drugs in ages. I went to Melbourne with him in June 2011 - my first trip down there - and he came up to see me in Brisbane in April this year.

Met them all a year ago. Being the new guy in class, with no confidence and a history of being bullied for most of my life. They welcomed me with open arms and shared so many of my interests, we clicked pretty much instantly.

I wish I could say I had a best friend at the moment, but too many transitions.
My first one was a childhood friend who happened to live a short walking distance from my place. Too bad he moved to Korea in the third grade.

I met my best friend in fourth grade.
He kept bugging me to trade him my Gyrados Pokemon card and I said no. But we eventually became good friends and I would go to his house to hangout.

We trained in the same group for a while, and we
really
hated each other. Then we moved to different groups and we suddenly discovered that
great minds
really disturbed people think alike. Tove and I still fight like every day but she's still fabulous because she's like me in female form
:D

#127- How did you meet your best friend?
I actually don't believe in the term "best friend." It's really off putting in my mind. When I hang out with someone and they start talking about their "best friend" it makes me feel like I could never be as good as friend to them as the other person. So I always try to avoid that term. I normally say things like "my oldest friend" or "very good friend."
But my oldest friend I met nearly 23 years ago. We went all through school together but we don't hang out as much anymore. Her and I live six hours apart and we just get together when we can. I have met some wonderful friends in my life (and yes, some are closer to me than others) but I just can't bring myself to say that one person is my "best friend." This is purely my opinion though!

My current "best friend" is a girl I met when I moved to California, we both had moved from the mid-west in the same month and somehow ended up in this strange town together. We met through a coworker I had just met and hated each other. lol
Then we went and saw Superbad together and apparently I impressed her with my sense of humor and we've been "best friends" ever since.

#128- What social conventions do you find pointless? I'm mostly talking about traditions and points of etiquette- not looking for anything about morality.
My own is Thank You cards- I never get why people insist on Thank You cards when everyone you invited to your party is close enough to you that you see them all the time, and are on informal terms.

Pretty much every one of those cards, people calling to congratulate on a birthday, making a big deal when a new year starts or ends in school. There's more stuff but I just can't bother with writing it now.

Most of them, to be honest. I'm not the world's most socially capable person, and the problem with things like Thank You cards (I was there, how about thanking me in person?), New Years (Woah, let's celebrate that it's been... another 365 days since we last celebrated?), and all of that, is that I just don't
get
them.

127. I agree with pioneers. It's like with children: you love them all equally, or at least try to. That way no-one gets offended.
128. I don't know really. I used to find almost everything pointless, but I've sorted adopted the strictures of stuff. I find it pointless to feel slighted if one is not invited to a party though. One woman refused to talk to my mother for months because she didn't get an invitation to my brother's first holy communion party... It's not like it was a rave with everyone getting smashed or anything.
Actually, I don't see the point of parties (over 6 people, say) without alcohol. I hate socialising with many people at once without the aid of it.
