QOTD Thread #332- Do you think that people should keep cats outdoors?

My house doesn't lose power. Not in the nearly three years I've rented it. We have the better of the two providers in town. So generally when everyone else has no power, we do. And we lock our door. :P
The last time I was somewhere power went out, it was at work. We just stood around and gave people free food if it's already been ordered. It was daytime so it didn't really matter light wise.

That's really strange. Your electricity "provider" shouldn't actually affect the quality of your electricity supply, since you are still on the same grid as everyone else, using the same electricity from the same power station. The company letterhead at the top of your bill simply denotes who is purchasing the electricity from said power station on your behalf, so really they are only your "biller", while your "provider" is a combination of the company that owns the power station and the company that owns/maintains the powerlines.
There must be some other reason that you have a more consistent supply.

It's common knowledge here that PSO (Public Service Company of Oklahoma) which I have, is far better than Duncan Electric. I'm not going to pretend to understand how the electric supply works. But it has ALWAYS been this way here. The quality of PSO is just better. Always has been, probably always will be. During any severe winter storm, and we've had at least two that I not-so-fondly recall since I've lived here. PSO remains up, if it goes off its only for an hour or so. But mostly just minor glitches; and the other power company stays down for weeks. The average amount of outages between the two during any given outage is ~7% for PSO and ~40% for the other. Maybe because of things like
this
. PSO cares more. They have more people, more money, more materials, plan things out better, etc. While the other electric company, seemingly, just sits around waiting for the bad to hit and doesn't plan anything. Ironically, you'd think PSO was more expensive, it's actually quite cheaper. My daughters grandparents have lived here for 60+ years and PSO has always been better. Just a fact of life here.

Is everyone on your street with PSO?

No. I'd say 1/5 of the town as a whole has PSO and it's sporadic. I didn't live in the house I do now during our 2009 blizzard, but I moved in the following March and the landlord even said that when he came by to check on the house the lights came on, and it was the only house with power on the block.

Play on my laptop until the power runs out, then read a book or something.

That's... Really strange. To have power when the whole street doesn't basically means you have your own exclusive powerline.

So guess what happened yesterday evening. The power went out! I found it very ironic, since it doesn't tend to happen often.
Totally your fault Elhonna.

I'm magical like that, Thror.
It's also because you're on a God-forsaken server :P
#126- Do you prefer brand names? Are you someone who buys mostly brand names, or none at all? Are there certain things where the brand names are just totally superior, and certain things where you don't care?

For clothes I don't care.
For electronics, sorta since the brand name stuff usually has better warranty and the like, but I have a had few lesser brand electronics that have lasted me for ever(hell, we have a 27 inch tv that still works and we got that almost 18 years ago).
For food; not so much, though Coke tastes better then PC cola but other then that, it's not that important.

Depends. Adamsm gave me a good lead when he mentioned electronics, cause I remembered that when I buy computer parts I tend to prefer Intel and nVidia. As for other electronics, I don't care much though. I don't even have a preferred type of mobile phones.
Food... yeah I do prefer the better brands of some things over the... same products that are cheaper and without a famous brand. Like some cola drinks, I always buy the branded ones and I generally avoid the janky sounding ones. And I like Haribo bears more than any other jelly bears.
For clothes I do not care at all, except for my boots which have to be
CULT

My boyfriend is hugely devoted to specific electronics brands, but I haven't ever paid much attention to that. I never worried about brand name clothes.
Food, though- there are a lot of foods where certain brand names are substantially better. Not all of them, but for most food types I have a favorite brand and don't buy generic or other brands.

I generally find food is one of the areas where I don't really care about the brand.
I'm a stickler for brand names when it comes to cleaning products and personal hygiene products (
especially
toilet paper). Actually, I wouldn't skimp on most things in life.

No, I grew up with cheap non-brand stuff and I will continue to buy non-brand stuff. It's just so much cheaper.
Also, slightly disappointed that this isn't related to our conversation last night :P

I'd prefer not to have my posting privileges suspended, so I elected not to have a QOTD about...erm...stuff like that.
