Request a Poll
Return to board index
Post by

Hello fellow Wowheaders!
So, quite a few threads on Wowhead, particularly here in Off-topic, include "I think this should be a Poll but I'm not premium" or similiar, and some statistics that would otherwise be interesting are lost because the posters' inability to actually create a poll.
So, in this thread, any Non-premium person may post here and request a Poll for a thread - I (or any other premium member, tbh) could Copy+paste whatever you've written for the subject into a thread - one with a poll. This way, even non-premium members may turn whatever ideas they might have had for a discussion-thread into a poll aswell, which would be rather beneficial for some threads in particular, especially those where majorities and minorities are concerned.
All credits will, of course, go to the person who thought of the thread.
And credits go to Onimushua for coming up with this idea.

Here's a poll:
Should request-a-poll thread be locked?
A.) Yes, Poll's are a Wowhead-Premium Feature. Money from premium goes to bettering the site for all.
B.) Yes, I pay for premium because I enjoy the additional benefits and feel slighted that others will get them for free.
C.) No, I think that Poll's should be a non-premium option, and until they are, this gets me what I want.
D.) No, I like this idea, and want to see what other members of the community with out Premium access can create.
I think I give 4 good options which encompass many opinions.
As for my Opinion, I'm going to go with
A.) Yes
Wowhead-Premium is not a lot of money, it goes towards helping support the sight, and is a sign of support and appreciation for the staff at Wowhead. As thanks for this support, Premium members receive certain bonuses. People who really want to post polls on these forums, are probably those who have a large active interest in the site already. Paying a small fee for this option is not a large step for those people who heavily use Wowhead in the first place. For people who randomly want to post polls and don't frequent the site much, to be honest, its not that much of a loss to the community.
Cheers,
Hat

If you want to filter out the people who would just post random polls and not add much to the community why not just have polls also be tied to site rep?
And maybe make it so premiums get to make as many poll threads as they wish whereas a person with high rep can only make X amount of threads every Y.
The thing that's different with polls and all other premium bonuses is that in many cases (especially if your looking for opinions) polls help better convey the message or general idea in the forums, something that fast Wowhead armory queues and avatar icons etc. don't do
I agree. Maybe make them a 3,000 rep bonus as well? Initially, polls were premium-only as a trial stage...

That's fine. I'm not saying that everyone can. I'm not trying to bring this into a debate about social economic standings of our members. I merely quantify the cost as less than a semi expensive meal at a restaurant or a round of drinks for myself and a buddy. Lol I often use food as a budgeting tool for myself. Damn the new Deus ex game looks great, i can go hungry for lunch 3 days and buy it!
If you want to filter out the people who would just post random polls and not add much to the community why not just have polls also be tied to site rep? I definitely want to filter out these people. And I think the rep system would be great way to include polls for non-premium members.

3500 imo More steps!
Overall I posted my post because polls are a premium feature, it costs real money, this real money goes to Wowhead, and this post totally subverts it. There has been no response from admins yet. I feel like this should really come from them rather than from us. I like the ideas of poll becoming a rep option, but again its not our choice.
For the record, I was premium before polls came out, I don't care if they become a general user privileged with certain restrictions. I became premium because I wanted to give something back, and I wanted larger post allowances.

Hat

Whether non-premiums can post polls or not, I feel it's ridiculous to suppress them from even asking those who can post to do it for them.

I'm not trying to be the bad guy here. I would not mind if someone asked me specifically in a thread to post a poll for them, but this is a specifically titled post that says "Look, you don't want to pay for something, I'll do it for you."
Cheers,
Hat
p.s. ...harsh wording "suppress" make me sound like Stalin or something. I'm from Spain, I enjoy free public services for all! I'm not trying to suppress anyone =

I'm that too. World cup was amazing and devastating at the same time. I'm really glad USA wasn't in the same bracket.

"Oh yea, the only reason why I want to be a premium member is to make poll topics whenever I feel like it.....It's not fair to cater to those who want to have polls but won't pay to to use it.... "
-____-
The main perk of being a premium is helping out the staff members for a great job well done. It 's compassion that fuels Premium members.. This counts as 95% of the reason why you choose to become a premium user. The other 5% is ads and other minuscule benefits.
Take it as a incentive. It should remain the same.

I have formalized a request to open Polls to non-premium member through the new Site Reputation system.

I know, and that's primarily the reason I haven't said anything in this thread as yet.
Thus far, I still haven't heard from Ashelia or Koper (or any of the other admins) on the issue, so I can't provide an official answer. As a member of the community however, I personally agree with Hat, and understood that as a non-Premium member (before becoming a moderator), not creating polls was just one of the things I accepted in exchange for my lack of direct monetary contribution towards the site.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##
