- Abstraction is your friend. I understand that this is a theoretical concept and that you won't have the tools to actually "make it happen", but there's a whole lot of how (as opposed to what) there that really doesn't matter. Resist the urge to spit out every minor detail and just get to the point, as it will do you massive favours down the track.
I can understand where you're coming from on this, but I feel I won't have done enough justice if I don't go into encounter details enough. Without the details, I feel like my encounter would be more like a "1 post summary" which is what plenty of people have already done for numerous conceivable fights out there.
- Seriously, tone down the raw number of phases / mechanics. A little more complexity is fine, but don't overdo it.
I understood the fight was too complex to do in its current state. That's why I cut it into parts, almost like Blizzard did. You won't be forced to do more than a couple of phases at a time without being able to take a break/restart from that point (although hard resets of the instance will make you have to start over again).
(In fact, each part should ideally take less than 10 minutes to finish)
In addition, if I really wanted to go overkill with mechanics, Deathwing himself would have about 200 different abilities to use. One thing worth noting is that a lot of mechanics are actually reiterations of abilities from previous phases as a reminder that NPC will continue to use that ability - the mechanic is the same, although it may be stronger/not as strong. On top of this, several abilities are just generic "damage" abilities (or the like), making them less mechanics and more something the healer will be dealing with (like static melee damage an enemy deals).
Also, regarding the length of the encounter, I have made numerous other smaller-scale encounters. You can check out my user profile and look at my instances or some other things (if you know where to search).
Aside from that, I will take your advice into consideration. There's a reason I cut phases out of my Lich King fight, so...

You don't seem confident enough in what you've created, so you seem to be trying to overcompensate by fleshing out as much as humanly possible.
I wouldn't say a matter of lack in confidence. It's more a matter of "it'll be just like everyone's else's stuff - I want my stuff to be different." In fact, if anything, I can admit I'm actually sort of showing off more than anything.
Find the middle ground. The ability to do exactly that could one day help a mock design of yours actually be taken seriously by a developer and become reality. Then, you can concern yourself with the niggling details.
Well I prefer to just take it from what I think is the developer's perspective. For some stuff, like fights I do for fun (Mr. Smite redux, etc), I am simply writing it out for the sake of writing it out. I do not care about fleshing it out. In some cases, like for my Lich King and this encounter, I would much prefer to flesh it out to understand what might go into making a fight from the developer/designer's end.
I want to see a fabled battle between a fallen aspect and a group of hardy adventurers... And all I see you giving us is Goku vs. Frieza on Namek.
Well the fact of the matter here is I mostly took what Blizzard said to heart (about the battle taking place in numerous locations, being enormous, etc). I made it a reality in that sense. I guess there's possibilities in making the fight shorter, but then I would feel the fight is more lacking than anything. I prefer to go big, then cut down from there is at all.
In addition, a "fabled battle" is subject to several translations. What I considered it to be was a relatively large scale battle of endurance between an enormous, corrupted dragon (not just any dragon, but one of immense power endowed by the Titans). The fact is if such an encounter it was short or small in this case, wouldn't that essentially mean he was not as omnipotent as he was put out to be?
nope, our job is to kill the tentacles while the family members kill him.
:)
The sad thing is this is sort of true. It's why I made as much of the encounter "in your face vs the adversary" as possible. Except the gauntlet phase, but that doesn't really count.

It's not a guide. This is a completely different fight.
For anyone else assuming this is the actual encounter strategy, PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE!
