I want to disable chat during a battle

How many times have you been tanking, DPSing or healing, and noticed you're suddenly not doing something... look down, and then realize that every keypress is going into your chat bar instead of activating abilities?
This has happened to me repeatedly. Especially during very heated boss fights. Thank goodness it hasn't, by itself, resulted in any wipes yet. But who knows what the ultimate effect is when this happens?
I want the ability to turn on and turn off my chat bar -- using some addon -- so that this will NEVER happen in the middle of a battle. If I want to communicate with my raid team, I have vent. If I'm in a raid which is using chat instead of vent, then I can enable my chat bar, and risk this occurring... but I really would like the option.
Has anyone found an addon out there to fix this?

Although I wouldn't know how to write it, you probably want a macro with a script to disable the binding of Enter and /, and then another macro to enable them.

That might work. Anyone have a clue how to do it?

I don't think using macros for toggling it would work, since
SetBi
nding
can't be called in combat
Registering for PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED / DISABLED should work thoughlocal f = CreateFrame("Frame")
f:RegisterEvent("PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED")
f:RegisterEvent("PLAYER_REGEN_DISABLED")
f:SetScript("OnEvent", function(self, event)
SetBinding("ENTER", event == "PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED" and "OPENCHAT")
end)in macro form (where
Z1
is an arbitrary global variable name)/run Z1=Z1 or CreateFrame("Frame")Z1:RegisterEvent("PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED")Z1:RegisterEvent("PLAYER_REGEN_DISABLED")Z1:SetScript("OnEvent",function(_,e)SetBinding("ENTER",e=="PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED"and"OPENCHAT")end)
