to get to lvl 70 you need the battle chest (Wow and BC) to get to 80 you need Wrath of the Lich King, and to 85 you Cataclysm

From what I have heard, BC seems to have been combined with vanilla.
But you need to buy ALL of the expansions inorder to get to 85

So if I am only playing Cataclysm at the moment, what level will I get to solely on this expansion? I only downloaded what was on the WoW website. It was around 20GB.
You couldn't be on cata without BC and Wrath. It won't let you upgrade the expansions out of order.

What you have downloaded/installed and what you have bought are two different things. Even if you only have Vanilla+BC activated on your account you still have to have the whole world of Azeroth installed. How much you paid and what your account says you have activated is the only true way to know how high you can level.

If all you did was download the client from the site, then yes you have all the expacs downloaded and installed. However, if you didnt purchase any of the expacs then you will be cut off at lvl60 (or lvl20 if you didnt setup a subscription plan yet). You will have to buy BC/Wrath/Cata if you didnt already do so, without entering the codes from the box (or email if you purchase them from the blizz store) the game client will only think you have just the classic installed and wont let you goto any BC/Wrath/Cata content. One quick way to tell what you got is to go back to battle.net, login and click the WoW box and under that youll see manage game. Click on your game account and the next page you'll see Product Level, whatever it says under that is the expac you currently have. Like Atik said, you cant have Cata without already having BC and Wrath.

lemme explain in further detail.
its not what you download, but what "clearance level" your account has.
You make the initial purchase of the standard "World of Warcraft" game, and that will let you level all the way to lvl 60. To get beyond 60, you need to buy the next stage "The Burning Crusade" either the actual game-disk (which comes with a special code you need to input in your battlenet account to unlock its features) or a digital purchase of just the code (Lacks the disks, but still gives the code to unlock the Burning Crusade features)
In other words, you've downloaded all of the expansions so far, but without the codes that come with each of those expacs, their features will be locked to you. Your character will not get past lvl 60 untill you buy the Burning Crusade code. And then you need to buy the "Wrath of the Lich King" code to get to 80, and then the "Cataclysm" code to get to 85.
Each of these codes require you to purchase the previous one. So if you've just bought the standard code, (locks at lvl 60) and then buy the cataclysm code (To get to 85) you will not be able to enter the Cataclysm code untill u've bought the other 2.
Its actually easier to just buy the game-disks if they are avaliable in your country, as doing that avoids having to download 20gb of info every time you need to re-install the game.

Ahh I see, it says I have the Classic game... so I can only get to Level 60 huh.. but it says Cataclysm when I am playing. This makes no sense lol..
So what exactly am I playing now? Therefore I have to go to the Blizz store and get the Battle Chest, the Lich King and Cataclysm? Even though I think I am playing Cata already?
I take it youre referring to what you see when you login, you see Deathwing and it says World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, thats just the updated login screen for the new expac, they do it for all of them. Your battle.net shows Classic so thats all you got, did you think you magically get all the content for free while everyone else paid for them? ;p Just doesnt work that way, while it can be fairly expensive for a new player to start up (about $70-$80 to get you up to Cata) everyone has to.

Alright thanks for clearing that up for me! I'll go to Level 60 and once I'm there I will decide whether or not to purchase the expacs.
Thanks for all the help guys
Contrary to all the many "Doomsayers" that keep chanting in unison "Wow is dieing, this game sucks" I actually believe this game to still be fun, and I very much recomend you to buy the expacs. Not only they give access to 4 more races (Blood elves, draenei, Worgens, and Goblins) they also allow you to play the super-fun class Death Knight (Warning: despite requiring a lvl 55 character to unlock it, and starting at lvl 55, Death Knights are not Over-powered and will not make you a god in PVP or PVE, you need the skill playing the class to make that happen)
Wow has a rather steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, its a fun game. I can tell you this much: The quests in this game aint NOTHING like u'll ever see in other MMORPGs.
These quests are as inmersive, fun, original and engaging as those you can find in next-gen Single-player RPGs and are very VERY fun to play.
Having said that: welcome to wow, and I hope you decide to stay.
