luckly sp haste are very good since thats what wotlk healers got, but sp over hit cap is useless and only static sp buffs any stacking sp buff or chance to proc sp is useless
Sp = spell power
Spr = spirit
Generally at least.
As for the matter at hand, Resto and Ele aren't terribly different from eachother, depending on how you chose to reforge.
Crit is quite helpful due to talents for resto, but it is ele's weakest stat.
Since you haven't played since before the release of cataclysm, you should really set some time aside and do some reading up from a proper source like Elitist Jerks linked above.
Generally (speaking for when you're at 85), a MH/Shield combo is the preferred method due to
Superior Intellect. That's what he was trying to get at.
A lot of things are different now:
- The old talent is now a proc in the form of the new mastery stat. Effects Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Lava Burst.
- Some new glyphs have been released, like the Charred Glyph, makes Ele's life a little easier.
- Totem of Wrath is no longer an improved flametongue totem you must drop, it merely modifies Fire Elemental, Searing, and Magma totems to provide the buff while its down.
- A lot more classes have begun to overlap their buffs. Mark and Kings, Str of Earth and Hunter Cats and Horn of winter, Wrath of Air and boomkin aura and spriest aura, so on and so forth
- Shamans now also benefit from , which allows Resto gear to be used as cross-set pieces, as having this talent causes Spirit to be treated as hit rating, which also eases up on the loot table load. You're still aiming for 17% to hit raid bosses, which now is 1742 rating
As for races, play what you like, goblins are quite good, but Trolls are still the favored for caster Min/Maxing, I believe.
