Ok you can take my advice as a grain of salt as I don't heal.
Don't use a caster dps weapon as a healer. When the sword could go to someone that could use it.
As your taking about healer weapons I'm sure your in a guild or you have access to a BS threw trade chat if not. Save yourself the grief and just get this crafted
Lightforged Elementium Hammer
its really a nice weapon and should last you until you get the drops.

Speaking from the point of view of someone who has faced this problem, here's my opinion:
The fact that they have hit on them is irrelevant. If it's a bigger upgrade for you, then you should take it over a mage or a warlock.
This is likely to happen, since the T11 372 weapons for a Holy Paladin drop off
Heroic Nefarian and Heroic Cho'gall
, but there are caster daggers that drop off of
Heroic Magmaw and Heroic V&T
. If you were able to kill Mag or V&T on heroic but not able to kill either Nef or Cho'gall, then it is very possible that all of your mages and warlocks have a 372 weapon but you're still using a 359.
In this case, the Volcanospike/Firethorn is almost definitely a bigger upgrade for you than it is for them, and you shouldn't feel bad about taking it from them just because it's "taboo" to use a hit weapon as a healer. If your mages or warlocks have a problem with this logic, I personally would find myself a different guild.

Would just like to point out that Holy Paladins cannot use daggers ^_^
Read the whole post again and you will note that he is pointing out that in the case of being able to kill H Magmaw and H V&T but not H Nef and H Cho, this would likely mean your caster dps will have 372's but you will be stuck with a 359.

The problem with Volcanospike is that it is Hit which is about as useful as Resilience and is treated like a dead stat for item budge reasons where you really better off with
Lightforged Elementium Hammer
instead.

Hit is not actually "useless"... But we, like the other healer-classes, have ways to gain Hit from our Spirit via talents.
Still, I am using the
Fuglified Elementium Hammer
at the moment, as an upgrade from Maldo's, and would gladly trade up to a Volcanospike or Firethorn if the opportunity presented itself. This is why we have
Reforging
. Less-desirable stats can be altered into more-desirable stats. A smidgen of surplus hit might, in fact, allow me to drop down to one point in
, and place that point elsewhere. I consider the significant increases in intellect, spellpower, and either haste or crit, to be far more advantageous than any Hit is going to hurt my healing. Minmax all you want, but these weapons are still an upgrade.

Hit is infinitely more useful than resilience in PvE. You can reforge out of hit, you can't reforge out of resilience.
And I entirely disagree with your second statement. Using reasonable stat weights, lets break down the itemization of that
Lightforged Elementium Hammer
:
First, here's the weights I'll use (they are Mr. Robot's, I'm not sure I entirely agree with them, but they're at least remotely accurate):
Int = 100
SP = 80
Spi = 75
Haste = 40
Crit = 35
Mast = 30
Lightforged Elementium has the following stats (multiplied out by their weights):
155 Intellect * 100 = 15500
2066 Spell Power * 80 = 165280
103 Spirit * 75 = 7725
103 Mastery * 30 = 3090
This weapon is worth a total of
191595 points
, of which
180780 of them
are from the weapon's Intellect and Spell Power. That means that
94.355%
of the weapons worth is contributed from stats the scale
directly
with the weapon's item level.
I'm not going to do the breakdown for the Volcanospike, but hopefully you have an idea of where it would end up.
Given that info, do you really think that a weapon's secondary stats even remotely matter?
