So I recently started playing this game thanks to Funden and have found this box thing the needs a key to open. And was wondering if there was another way to getting a key other then buying one?

You can trade for one, but you'll probably end up paying 2 refined+ which isn't really worth it.

On top of that, if you have to trade for it, you'll need to have a premium account in order to enable trading. To get that you have to buy 1 item in the store which could very well be a key. There are 99 cent items but Steam required a $5 minimum when adding funds to your steam wallet so buying 2 keys would make much more sense.
After the initial purchase you're free to trade as much as you'd like.

Speaking of crates, I've got some that I will never open (not spending the money on keys) - #23 (2 of them), #25 (2 again), and #29 (only one). I'd hate to just throw the things out, though.
And, yes, they've been sitting in my bags since I got them. I never had much of a problem with inventory space, but I guess someone might want them.
Try waiting a bit, as the crates no longer drop you may find a potential buyer at some point in the future and may be able to get a bit of money out of it. They do get really annoying though when it comes to backpack space, so if worst comes to worst try to sell the less valuable ones off for real cheap or something along those lines. I'd recommend
TF2 Trading Post
for trying to sell off items (including crates)
Also undead, it is pretty much never worth uncrating as the strange weapons (they track the amount of times you get kills with the weapon and rank up accordingly - though some items rank up differently) you get from it are usually worth less than a key is (with a few exception) unless you are really lucky and get an unusual hat (though the chance of that is 1/100). I personally buy all my strange weapons off other players rather than uncrating.
If any of you need an in-depth source of TF2 information try

And >.< I was just getting the hang of TF2 back when I changed to playing Saints Row 3, so when I come back to TF2 I will be really bad at it once again... Seems to happen all the time to me.
Though I have decided I am really bad at the KOTH Harvest map no matter what, even when I am TF2ing at my best, the map simply doesn't suit me. At all.

I suck at the KOTH maps. They aren't very well suited for engineers. Though I love the payload and intel maps.

See above. Find protected nooks to put them in, spycheck, and above all TAKE THE INITIATIVE. Run around, protect your sentry. Don't just sit there and let the demoman launch stickies. Run and attack, grab some teammates, etc.

So I recently acquired the gunslinger and found it's a lot more helpful in those maps then the standard one since I tend to drop it near doors and with it's quick build time then use my pistol to help it kill far off targets.

if you have a wrangler you can use that to kill far off targets. gives you remote control over your sentry. Also, increases the fire rate of the mini sentry when your using it.
Mini sentries are killed pretty easily so you have to drop them in unsuspecting places. Using a frontier justice in combination to the gunslinger works really well too. Since your sentry will be dying quite often any kills it gets will be converted to crits for your frontier justice when the sentry dies.

I agree with woohaa. The Gunslinger is an excellent weapon, but I personally prefer the regular sentry unless I'm facing a good team.

>.< I knew perfectly well what you were talking about, guess I didn't make the sarcasm clear enough.
And I agree in that the frontier justice is essentially a must with the mini sentry (well not really, but it sure helps a ton if you do use them in conjunction).
Having several engineers all with mini sentries on a KOTH map can quite easily secure an area, though the normal sentry is generally better if there are several other engineers there to back you up.
Also Fund is right in that you need to find nooks for your sentry and run around protecting it, providing you are using the normal sentry, the only problem is if you get too preoccupied with defending it from demomen and soldiers it is quite possible a spy will use the attacks as a diversion in order to sap the sentry while you are busy elsewhere and then go for a backstab (or Ambassador kill :P)

It was Sarception.

yeah if i'm defending i generally use the normal sentry. i generally use the pomson, wrangler, southern hospitality for my def loadout.
i found the best strategy to use whenever i'm using the mini sentry is to run around distracting people from shooting my sentry. If they don't even realize their being shot by it in the first place the better for me. Also, i never rely on the mini sentry to a) stay alive very long and b) to kill people by itself. i'll generally make sure i have the metal to rebuild another one and i'll help it kill whoever it's shooting at. I also started trying to ninja past the other team and build a sentry behind them in a unsuspecting spot. Sometimes it works and other times i die lol.

Another good use for the mini sentry is bait, as I have noticed many players simply charge up to it while it sets itself up and they try to destroy it (especially when they are using a close range weapon). When that happens it is so easy to run up behind them and shotgun them to death, as most people try to kill the sentry first even when you attack them, then if they do manage to kill you they're generally on such low health that the sentry can easily finish them off.
As the defending team it can also work really well on some maps where you place the mini sentry in a spot that causes the enemy team to get hit in the rear while they charge out of their spawn area, I find you can rack up quite a few kills providing you keep the enemy team focused on you rather than the mini sentry.

Is it just me or do people take this game waayyy too seriously. I was in a badwater game the other day and we have a relatively balanced team except we have 3 spies. Which in my opinion isn't bad unless the 3 spies aren't doing anything. But we get completely raped by the other team. I was on top of my team with only 9 points. everyone else had around 3-5 or no points. The first thing people blame is the fact we had 3 spies. Not the 6 people who didn't even kill one person or the engineers who didn't build any level 3 sentries, or any other good reason why we lost soooo bad. They blame the 3 spies.
I've been in some games where the other team had like 5 spies and we got raped sooooo bad because they were decent spies and there wasn't much you could do. A good team will beat a bad team regardless of composition.

Yeah, that's pretty true, but with relatively evenly-matched teams composition can be vital. From what you said though, it sounded like the spies were AFKing and when a quarter of your team is AFK that can generally turns the tide of the battle in the enemy team's favour. Especially if the rest of your team wasn't playing that well to start off with.
Edit: Also, yay strange huntsman has been added! :D
And I was considering getting that strange part that adds a headshot kill counter for my Strange Ambassador, when those are cheaper that is, but then I remembered most of my Ambassador kills are a headshot or two, then a body shot to finish them off.
