Switch to Ret, the burst damage makes killing mobs must faster, and at the low end of 80-85, WOG heals are still fairly decent, and remember the Crusade talent gives you 300% Holy Light heals after killing an enemy.
I would recommend starting in Hyjal and grinding the elementals right at the start - you'll get some greens in no time, and the NPCs can help you out if you're struggling.
The first few quests are very easy and you get some gear quickly.

Also the new
Selfless Healer
talent reduces WoG CD by 10 seconds, further increasing survivability.

Can we take the debait about
Selfless Healer
to another topic? This is going to be a long drawn out set of post that will for sure derail this topic a little.
As for the help Op I belive Hyjal would be the better place to start. You have help that help kill mobs for the first few quest. And combine that with the random Ah Items that should be cheap for the most part you should be good to go.

How is it not useful for soloing? It doubles your instant healing output. I would call that pretty useful.
And, by doing so, lowers your TV output. At the same time, Crusade allows for a slightly slower but very powerful heal after every mob you kill.

I had the same issue on a DK i was putting through Vashj'ir. I had BoA chest and shoulders, rest of gear was 77-80, went there as 80 and got nuked by the Naga at the beginning... Having more than 1 monster at a time was suicidal! Given the time to complete 5-6 quests, the good stuff started appearing, pieces with 100+ str, good stam and armor. 10 more quests later i was actually pulling more than 4 of those at the same time, all while being full health....
The gap is there if you dont enter Cata content from a raider's point of view, epics from head to toe...
It only takes a few quests and the issue resolve by itself!
