And she does. On the Livestream where they announced their throwing in their lots to the documentary, Tara made a "plot thickens" joke... xD

So, I can't decide if the castle shown in "Hearth's Warming Eve" is an ancient Canterlot or not.
It's clear they are quite similar, in architecture and location...
So either, modern Canterlot is the same castle that has been refitted (something not unheard of; many existing castles have been desroyed and rebuilt multiple times), or a new castle built in a similar location (unicorns like mountains and cliffs, apparently).
On the one hand, the play says that "Equestria" was discovered by the three tribes after the blizzard, and Canterlot is obviously part of Equestria. On the other hand, it's possible that it means
modern
Equestria was formed after the blizzard, as new land merged with the old lands and forged by the union of the three tribes. I think Canterlot to Ponyville is plenty of distance to count as a new land; at least, that's about as far as I can imagine Princess Platinum walking to find one. Besides, that, I can't think of a reason for them to abandon their old lands once the Windigoes had been defeated.
But there are some differences. What do you think?
(Incidentally, the main reason I'm getting so into it is because I'm currently writing a fan-fic account of the
actual
events that would have inspired the play, i.e. I don't think it was just six ponies that discovered and founded Equestria).

Maybe it's the castle currently in the Everfree forest?

Maybe it's the castle currently in the Everfree forest?Mmm, I would doubt that. It seems like Canterlot is a unicorn city where Celestia happens to lived, whereas the "Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters" seems more like it was specifically built to house Celestia and Luna.

I have to agree with Patty. Even if it's not the same structure the architectual similarities between the castle of the Unicorn Princess and the one seen in the Season 1 pilot cannot be denied. Canterlot itself is far more fantastical and colorful in design than that one was, pointing out that either it was built after an architectural renessaunce (yeah, yeah; I can't spell) of sorts or it is pure Alicorn architecture. Seems most likely to me that the Season 1 castle was the original one and the Everfree forest grew up around it over time after it was abandond at somepoint - probably after the appearence of Luna and Celestia.

Myeh, I just can't see it. The location is too different (not to mention
much
closer to Ponyville than Canterlot). A castle can be rebuilt much easier than the entire surrounding environment be changed (
Hohenzollern Castle
was destroy and rebuilt twice).\
Even if it's not a pre-Equestrian Canterlot, it at least shows us that unicorns have a particular taste in cities and locations (namely, mountains and castles).

At Freshman introduction to the college I'll be attending this fall I met an extremely pretty red-haired girl. She is a Pegasister, her favorite pony is Applejack and she called Twilight Sparkle a dork.
But she's most definately out of my league.
Still; first time I've met a fellow Brony/Pegasister irl that wasn't in my initial group of friends. Pretty neat.

What makes you think that? You at least share a common interest, so you should be fine.
Ah, that's right; none of you have ever seen any pictures of me.

Ah, that's right; none of you have ever seen any pictures of me.You can't be that bad... :P
But I'll leave it to you to decide whether you want to pursue it or not.
But as to meeting Bronies irl, you should try wearing the shirts... :P I get brohooves all the time. I love it!
I've converted a number of bronies myself. This show is like cocaine.
Edit: On another note, I'm working hard on a new fan-fic. I've managed to stay inspired for longer than any other fic I've done in a long, long time. The first one will be a realistic account of what the events in the Hearth's Warming Eve might have actually been, the sequel will feature the rise of Discord, the creation of the Elements of Harmony, and Celestia and Luna's appearance in Equestria, and the third will be an account of Luna's descent into madness and subsequent banishment.
Edit #2: The theme that runs throughout all these stories is that it's a fairly serious take on the events in question, with the concept that the pastel-painted utopia that the ponies live in now, free from dark influences, is a product of Celestia's rule, and before that, things were quite a bit more sinister. The three tribes from Hearth's Warming Eve aren't just angry at each other, they're threatening open war. Discord isn't just reality-warping prangster, but an omnipotent chaos god with chronic mood swings.

Not bad, no, just not as good as some. And people as pretty as her don't have to give much thought to the underdogs. I know I sure as hell wouldn't if I was in their shoes.

My little brother is still resisting. Is sad, really.

It's been done before but I like those types of fics. :o One of my favourites of that type (although it's not a prequel in itself, it does deal with some parts of pre-Celestia's rule) is the Immortal Game, if anyone's read that. It's long as $%^&, but fabulous. The main criticism is the butcherede Elizabethane Englishe in parts, but owell.

Well, I typed up a big long post, but I accidentally closed the window, so let me summarize it.
I know it's been done before, but if I only wrote things that hadn't been done before, I'd never write at all... :P
I hope to at least shed some new perspective, thanks to the MASSIVE amount of research I've been doing for the project. In that regard, I actually have a sort of proto-theory on how Friendship magic ("Philomancy") might work.
This is where I wrote a really big thesis on exactly how it worked, but really I'm not well enough educated to put it properly, so I'll just state the basic principles: Basically, Philomancy works through the harmonization of some sort of metaphysical "frequency" that exists in ponies (and quite possibly all other living things as well). Different frequencies could harmonize together to form a "chord" of sorts.
The Elements of Harmony, which are most frequently represented as crystals, could have their own resonant frequencies that amplify or substitute for the frequencies of living ponies, explaining how Celestia was able to use them by herself, but Twilight and her friends were even more powerful (since they were able to cure Nightmare Moon, not just banish her). The five Elements provide the actual harmony, but the sixth, Magic, gives it form. Whether Magic serves as a sort of "diaphragm" that produces the perceivable effect, or whether it is the actual medium the wave travels through, I haven't figured out, but it's clear that there needs to be some sort of focusing element (like the Big Crown Thingy, or Clover's horn) in order for the harmony to actually manifest.
I like this theory, because it fits so well with the musical themes used in the show. In the first episode, it mentions that "there two regal sisters who. . .created
harmony
for all the land," and "the Elements of
Harmony
," and that after Celestia took over "
harmony
has been maintained in Equestria for generations since." In
Hearth's Warming Eve
, Spike asserts that before the discovery of Equestria, "ponies did not know
harmony
," but after Clover and her friends defeated the windigoes, "the three leaders agreed to share the beautiful land and live in
harmony
forever afterwards." In
The Return of
Harmony
, Cheerilee states that "this statue represents
discord
, which means 'a lack of
harmony
among ponies.'"
It's clear that harmonics are a very clear motif in the show, which makes this theory particularly appealing, in my opinion.
In my story, Star-Swirl is actually the first pony to begin rigorous study of Philomancy (with the aid of his apprentice, Clover, who discovered it), and is the one who conceptualizes the Elements as a way to boost its effect (as well as make it accessible to non-unicorns). The Elements are actually created after Discord takes over, and Celestia and Luna put them to use. I like the idea that the Elements were created by mortal ponies; it both shows that the power of friendship is generated by normal people, while also paying homage to the Lord of the Rings, where the titular rings (and the silmarils, too) were created by mortals, but played a key parts in the affairs of immortals.
Edit: Well, I guess that ended up being a pretty long post anyway... :P

You're making a half-scientific theory for the magic of friendship in a cartoon pony show. You go, qurl! I like it, actually. It's a lot better idea than my headcanon, easily. :P

Unfortunately, I have a biological deficiency which makes it difficult for me to process the MST3K Mantra properly... :P
Like I said, I'm hoping my own contributions will give the story some fresh perspective, even if the story's already been done before.
