You are aware that the Mustang has very superior handling than what most people think they do, the new model was one of the best drift cars used in the professional drift circuit. And yeah you can get tons better cars, but for the price you probably wont find one as fast or faster. G37 coupe is going to cost you $10-$15k more and those really arent much faster, 30 more hp than the GT. Whereas you find like a '05-'09 Shelby Cobra Mustang for around the same price with uh 220 more hp ;p When you think about it I cant really name a car off the top of my head thats both faster and nicer than the 2011 model mustang for $28,000.
We weren't talking about a base model Mustang, we were talking the price of the new Boss Mustang, which is about $45,000. Would it be faster than the G37? Yes. Would it be nicer? Not in my opinion.
Nit-pick: the Boss 302 starts 39,000 :)
Yeah, the Infiniti is nicer for sure, but that's because it is a luxury coupe. IMO they aren't really comparable. That's why the Mustang is usually pitted against cars like the Camaro and the Challenger.
Oh yeah and a nit-pick on Murrdurr: The Mustang GT has around 70 more hp than the G37 since the 2011 model when they gave it the 5.0. Now you could say the G37 has 30 more horses than the V6 Mustang, which makes 300 hp, almost as much power as the previous years V8. :)

The Infiniti G35 / G37 goes by another name in Japan. Sure, it's nice, but it's also a Skyline.
Yes, that is true, but that doesn't change anything really. Yeah the old Skylines were pretty cool, and could be modded to the extreme, but the new one shares only the name.
Just like how the new Ford Explorer is a unibody cross-over based on the Taurus now. Sure it has the same name as the old
real
SUV, but it's a completely different vehicle.

wait what? the g35 is a skyline?
In Japan and in name only.

If I buy a G37, the power would be equivalent to their top skyline?
Post by
Murrdurr
No, it would still be slower than a real Skyline.

D:
the top skyline of 2011 vs the top mustang / camaro of 2011. what wins?
in miles per gallon
in weight
in power
in torque
Will donate runecloth to your cause if someone can answer this.
edit: what would you prefer? the most revered japanese car, or american muscle, disregarding prejudice.

If im not mistaken the new Skyline GT-R spec V has 550hp, the same amount as the Shelby Cobra Mustang. The new Camaro SS only has like 426hp. The Cobra has slightly more torque than the skyline iirc. And I would go with American Muscle any day of the week.

Why?

Why what? why would I go with American Muscle over a import? Because I would rather listen to that v8 roar and I love the new Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, Vette over the new imports.

The GT-R is a completely different car than the G37/Skyline, so you know. The new one isn't called a Skyline GT-R, which used to be a variant of the Skyline, it is just called the GT-R.
So for your comparison between the G37/Skyline to the Mustang, the Mustang wins on all performance counts. Luxury is another story.
Mustang vs GT-R: The GT-R wins on all counts but they aren't really comparable since they are in very separate classes. The GT-R starts at 80,000 which puts it more in the running with the Corvette.

Thank you for your input. The mustang does sound really great now that you mentioned it. I just watched the 302 boss on youtube. Looks and sounds menacing.
I am getting 2 cars next year. The first is the FT-86. The 2nd would either be a G37, Toyota Supra, Mustang, or a truck. So many choices, I'm going crazy.

I'll try to do the comparison for Face when I get back from lunch if no one else has done it. I would certainly assume the G37 will win in terms of MPG, because it's a smaller V6 rather than a huge V8.
G37 330hp/270tq -
18 / 26 mpg
G37 330hp/270tq xAWD -
17 / 25 mpg
Mustang V6 305hp/290tq
- 20 / 31 mpg
Mustang V8 412hp/390tq
- 18 / 25 mpg

heh more like in the Corvette zo6 class, the base model vettes are in the 40,000ish range.
c6 zo6 vs '09 gt-r
Same 2 cars, longer vid
Very cool vid of a zr1 vette and new GT-R
ZR1 Quarter Mile @ 11.5sec GT-R Quarter Mile @ 11.8 both are clearly fast as hell right out of the factory.
Holy $%^& '74 vette
yeah....thats 2 superchragers XD

The ZR-1 is over $100k and the base 'vette is $49,000

Still alot closer to the skyline heh. I think putting the zr1 up against the gt-r is a good comparison. While the zo6 is alot more common to see than the zr1 its still putting the best of each version up against each other.
