No, Godzilla is what made the Godzilla franchise. Trying to recreate the cheesy effects of the 1960s only really works in Doctor Who, and even they upgrade their effects. It still looks like Godzilla, and that's what matters. The 90s Godzilla was trying to make him into something else. They changed the origin, the powers, and the look of the monster. This is just an upgrade in effects that you're complaining about. Old movies have their charm, but everybody knows you can't recreate that on the modern stage. The reason that the old stuff is good even though it's kind of "bad" is because that's the best they had at the time, and people fell in love with it for what it was. Downplaying special effects in a monster movie to recreate B movie nostalgia is a little silly.

Don't tell that to Scyfy.

The effects and the fact that it looks like it has nothing at all to do with the original: From the group para jumping out of the plane in the start of the trailer(which look like a Marine squad), to the shots of 'fear' from people, all of which do not look like they are of Japanese descent. The remake looks like it's going to be Americanized, and that is not the Godzilla I know and love.

What do you mean the original? Do you have any idea how many Godzilla movies there have been and how many different themes there have been? They've gone from scary, to silly, to action, to post apocalyptic, to quasai-superhero.

1) Made for TV movie, not the same as a Hollywood blockbuster.
2) Scyfy doesn't deliberately downplay their effects, they just work with what they have.

Meh, Scyfy is the laughingstock of tv at this point.
At least the last time I checked. I remember the last time I watched it, they were running a marathon of the Resident Evil movies.
For 4 days in a row.
Yeah.

It wouldn't have the same impact that it did back then. And to make it into a cheesy action flick, where it looks like it's gonna be just another 'America saves the day' piece of crap is not what I want to see Godzilla become.
Honestly, I preferred the first trailer that came out at Comic-Con; it looked good and kept me deluded...seeing that new one, just shows that once again, all we are getting is a &*!@ty remake that will be idiotic.

It's pointless to argue about. Quality of entertainment is subjective to the viewer in question. I like gritty realism, so I think the movie looks fantastic. You're a purist, so you think it looks like &*!@. Neither my interpretation nor yours is any more or less valid, they're just different.
That being said I have no idea where you're getting the "America saves the day" idea from it. Yes we see the military attacking it, but we see the military attacking every monster in every movie... ever.
I'd also like to point out that the original Godzilla was meant to be taken seriously. You can bet your ass that if they had CGI back then, they would have used it. Like many series, the ridicules campyness didn't crop up until a few sequels in.

Let me also point out that you've said you want Godzilla to be a guy in a rubber suit, and that you also don't want a "cheesey" movie on the same page...

No, I don't want a cheesy action flick. I've always loved the rubber suit Toho movies for Godzilla.

I think it's meant to be an action with heavy comedic overtones. Else they wouldn't have had such a badass action scene montage. But that's just my take on it, and I've been wrong before.

Anybody else notice the guy from the end of Thor 2 was in there?

Yes, since that was the point of his cameo in Dark World; to show 'hey look at the new bad guy' in the next movie; good ole Collector, will be interesting to see how he's connected to Rhonan the Accuser.

So I just watched The Secret of NIMH last night, and it was pretty good. It reminded me of An American Tail, with a dash of the 1970s Disney's Robin Hood.
