i honestly dont know why theres not many groups with a resto shammy in these forums.
the chain heal is nice, but usually you'd prefer to have a single target heal on the tank that's large and mana-efficient, shamans don't have that (compared to the other healers)
i hated running 5 mans with resto shammies because they can't heal like priests, paladins and druids, they can't spam heals like paladins and they can't HoT like priests or druids
druids, priests, and paladins (with blessing of light) heal for 3k base while shamans heal 2k base
for the totems, they don't put it down for every pull because that's a LARGE waste of mana
priests also have a PW: Shield and fort buff
paladins have up to 9 different blessings
druids have gift of the wild, and they get healing bonus from spirit
to face the facts, they're not that great for 5 mans, yes chain heal is amazing but that works best in raids, not 5 mans
i'm not saying that shammies can't heal, i'm just saying that they're not the top choice for 5 mans
face it, AoE healing in 5 mans is pretty rare and priests do it a lot better in 5 mans
earth shield is nice but it's not ground breaking
druids have a nice HoT combo
paladins are more durable

you're being so stupid i can counter your arguments with quotes:
arguement:
That a shamans base biggest heal "only" heal for 300 hp less than that of a priest is a fact ok, im not denying that,
counter:
while having strong singletarget healing.
i stated above in my post, shamans have the WEAKEST single target healing
people don't understand that shamans have a weaker heal than other classes
arguement:
Ofc the tank matters. So you are saying that a naked tank takes the same damage as a well geared one?
I think we know who is rambling here, sir.
counter:
we're discussing healers...
arguement:
but it also requires less mana, so really it depends on how you look at it
less healing done = more frequent heals have to be cast over the long run = more mana spent = mana inefficiency... aka there was
no point in stating that
Again, this is heroic dungeons we are talking about! We arent fighting 10-15 minutes raid encounters here, so the few seconds more that a shaman would spend on casting heals than a priest would, doesnt really make or break it.
counter:
no point in stating that
i NEVER stated that shamans can't heal in 5 mans, i've said that they have the lowest heal and it annoyed me that you wrote that they have a STRONG heal after i posted that they don't
either read and understand it or remain silent because you're twisting my words

Shadow Priest
Warlock
Mage (just because I always forget about water)
Holy Pala
Feral Druid
that's my dream team for heroics, although you could do almost every instance with 5 people that know what they're doing

shaman is the worst singletarget healer,
stupid or other terms like that, please head back to the blizzard forums where you so clearly belong.
i have stated in my previous post that they can heal in 5 mans
i also stated that i only wanted to clear up the fact you said that they have a strong single target heal, when they don't
they have the weakest out of the 4 healing classes, you CANNOT call that STRONG by DEFINITION
THAT'S ALL I WANTED TO SAY
AND I HAVE STATED THIS IN MY PREVIOUS POST
you're just arguing pointlessly at this point in time
you get back to the blizz forums and lrn2read
BTW the rest of your comment is off topic but i'll answer it anyways:
(which in its pure form doesnt, not even shaman),
i have no clue what you've said there
but because of the fact that they can keep spamming flash of light (almost) constantly. Flash of light is a fast heal and heals for way less the equivalent fast heals of other classes
yes, ok but i swear we were talking about 5 man's where mana-efficiency is, like you've stated in previous posts, not important
paladin's
mechanics
are a bit different to the other healers: paladin's most mana efficient heals are FoL
certainly the fast heals aren't as big as the other healer's fast heals but it heals
more than half of the other classes
for
less than half the mana
let's look at
Awake
~25% chance to crit on FoL and 30% on holy light, without raid buffs
WITH 12% extra heal talent and illumination
that averages out to be 153 mana/FoL over time ~5.1 HpM
688.8 mana/HL 7 ~5.0 HpM
155.4 mana/HL 4 ~5.0HpM
versus
shaman (WITH 10% extra heal talent)
lesser healing wave ~2.8 HpM
greater healing wave ~4.2 HpM
priest (WITH mana reduction talent & 10% extra heal talent)
flash heal ~3.6 HpM
greater heal ~4.5 HpM
OMG look how mana inefficient that is compare to paladins!
what do you know, shamans with their 500 less healing done for 120 less mana is more mana-inefficient...
ALL this is WITHOUT holy light buffs from gear
without top raiding gear FoL is the most mana efficient heal out there
let's look at what happens when holy light bonus from gear is added in
But can you please explain to me why so many high end guilds keep their main tank up by having 3 holy pallies spamming flash of light constantly, when according to you, they must be the worst single target healers?
funny how the nihilum's
healing guide
states that holy light > FoL no? nihilum is the top rated guild, so yea...
And please understand im not discussing whether or not the shamans greater heal heals for more or less than others
... yes we were, you've just changed the topic on your own...

cant read things in context can understand it.
you have never stated that it was in context to anything and your
terms
have not meant it as a context to ... wait "nothing" that's what
by"context" you're comparing with some situation, guess what, you haven't done so...
def con·text
–noun
the set of circumstances or facts that surround a particular event, situation, etc.
I really didnt expect you to write all that about FoL as I thought it was quite clear in my earlier post that its because of its mana efficiency...
and i've also compared it to how it's more mana efficient than shamans due to illumination
and i've shown how even priests are more mana-efficient 6 min after you posted your comment showing that
FoL is an exceptional case.
Doesnt matter, the principle is still the same.
err... no, they spam HL over FoL... so you're wrong...
For christs sake, show me where I've said that shamans heals heal for more than other classes.
while having strong singletarget healing.
since you never once specified that you were saying that in context up to now, by
strong heal
by definition, it is superior to another class' heal, hence you were
implying
that they have a stronger heal than another class
But when it comes to buffs the shaman clearly offers superior buffs to this group than any other healing class.
yes, but i've also clearly stated that that wasn't my point, and i've also stated several times that my entire posts sum up to the point that
shamans don't have strong single-target heals, it's 500 less than any other class
and that
it is annoying for me that you have completely disregarded my statement and say that shamans have strong single target heals
and btw Oh so just because you stated it in your earlier post, it makes it true?no, but i have clearly explained all my posts so that they are true but you
twisted
my wording to make it sound false
therefore i will repeat myself
Shamans are viable in 5 mans, but they have the weakest single target healing out of the 4 healing classes and is the most mana-inefficient for single target healing.

1. Holy pala (me)
2. Tank, Druid/Warr, as a pally i dont like having other pally's in the group.
3. Shadow Priest, I have found them as one of the most useful people in a group. For one, they can help with healing when im in trouble. Also as they drain life and vampiric touch, they give health to the whole group. This is a godsend! It makes up for the fact that I dont have any HoT's. It also gives me mana back as im holy, so im always topped up on mana. This, i think is a vital role in any of my groups.
4. Mage, sheep for CC, and food and water to the group. They can also do insane amounts of damage if geared right and take a lot of adds on thier own.
5. Hunter/Warlock, Hunter is very nice for CC and damage again. With traps and high amounts of damage hunter is a vital part to my group. I like to take a warlock when there is need for fearing, or when there is an instance with a high amount of demons, in this enslave is very nice as you can use the demon to tank mobs before the tank rushes in when it dies (heroic mechanar is an instance where i always take a warlock).
I havnt included any melee classes in my setup as it makes my job as a healer much harder, as most melee dps players take damage from mobs they are killing. I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but a lot of healers are on my side here. A tank taking more damage than normal is better in the long run i think than a rogue being able to kick a mob, reducing damage, but in the process taking damage himself.
Long winded but thats my choice :S
