For some reason, the java modelviewer forces my Firefox browser to close instantly withouth error reports etc.
I checked on Internet Explorer with the result that it also closes IE7 instantly.
However flash works fine for me.
EDIT: downloading the latest JavaRuntimeEnvironment solved the problem

With the latest version of java (according to Sun) and a fresh IE and Java applet cache, I get the following exception:
ERROR: java.io.IOException: Cannot validate certificate for jogl.dll
As follows is the JVM stdout/stderr -

SEVERE: java.io.IOException: Cannot validate certificate for jogl.dll
I'm not sure if I need to clear some other cache to get an updated dll? Even after clearing the java cache it gives me the message abt 'using previously cached' in processNativeJar... Has anyone else run into this?
It happens the same to me, please help!

"ERROR: java.io.IOException: Cannot validate certificate for jogl.dll"
Same for me, but it worked yesterday. What to do? or is it just a temporary bug on the site?

I guess the certificate that the applet launcher on our server was signed with expired. I've updated it, and the problem should be fixed. Sorry about that.

You'll need to clear the applet cache. Control Panel -> Java -> General tab, Temporary Internet Files section, Settings, Delete Files.
