I personally took Deadened Nerves. It's constant passive damage reduction that works across the board (excellent for encounters with unavoidable damage). Deadly Brew on the other hand is very situational by comparison and you can sort of mimic the effect with Crippling on your thrown weapon if there's no one else available to slow.
Imp. Recuperate isn't an option because you need that one "extra" point to reach the bottom of the Assassination tree (and to activate the other two trees if you're specing correctly in the first place).

Yeah, for the life of me I can't figure out why EJ doesn't recommend deadened nerves...for raiding purposes deadly brew just doesn't make any sense. That slow is going to be provided by a half dozen other specs anyway. Taking less damage from crackles and such? Yes please.

EJ puts Deadened Nerves as an option for that spare point, if you actually read the talent build part and not just see and copy the build they placed there as a reference. And the utility of the Slow varies depending on your Raid comp. and current fight, while in some fights and comps helps for an AoE slow on Magmaw's larvae(while usinf ToT on the kiter Ofc. and having little othe slows) and on others are F*ing useless as slowing adds on Anshal's platform on Conclave while they are on the Boss' Healing Circle.
You may also put that spare point on Elusiveness to shorten your Vanish and CoS CDs.

Except you can't. Like MasterOutlaw said, the spare point has to be in assassination to fill it out to 31 points.

You complain about Deadly Brew being situational, when what you said is also very situational. Not every boss or mobs have AoEs, and 3% less damage is nothing that will save your life either. On the other hand, when you need to FoK, you need Deadly on your thrown to maximize your damage and FoKing for 2 or 3 mobs if the group needs one slow, it's a DPS sink. Deadly Brew gives a passive slow without having to risk DPS.
The best would be to know the people who are you raiding with and spec according to the group needs.
