I think our backline is about as good as its going to get (until Hoppa gets back) except our halves.

Happy with Carney. Wallace, Maloney and Hodkinson must all surely be ahead of Pearce. I understand Hodkinson was no chance this year due to injury, and Wallace was also injured for game 1, but jeez. How many more chances is Pearce gonna get? He does
nothing
.

Thinking about it, I may have been a bit harsh on Stewart. He crosses the line quite a bit. His kick returns really are woeful though. I just want to see Merritt in the team and I think replacing Stewart is the best option to get him in.

Also Hodges try was fair. No complaints about that at all. My only complaint was the Tate dog shot (one of the worst) which was missed by the refs. Wouldn't have changed the penalty though, which was awarded for Bird's swinging arm.

I actually disagree with that. The rule states you can't go behind your own player and gain an advantage.
He went behind his own player, and if scoring a try is not gaining an advantage, I don't know what it is.
The argument about if defenders were impeded, is actually irrelevant.
The rule is the same but the interpretation wad changed just last year. It basically comes down to a judgement call from the video ref as to whether he thinks NSW would have stopped Hodges or not. I don't think they would have.

I agree that the standard of refereeing is low, but I will never be one to attribute a loss to the refs.

I was bored so I decided to put together an Australian team of the NRL era (1998-present). I only picked players who were at their peak during the era so no Paul Harragon or Glenn Lazarus and only picked Australian players so no Nathan Cayless or Benji Marshall. Anyway I thought this would be an interesting topic for debate and also a chance for us to remember the champions of yesteryear.
1. Darren Lockyer
2. Adam MacDougall
3. Matt Gidley
4. Matt Cooper
5. Brent Tate
6. Brad Fittler
7. Andrew Johns
8. Shane Webcke
9. Cameron Smith
10. Petero Civinoceva
11. Nathan Hindmarsh
12. Gorden Tallis
13. Paul Gallen
14. Shaun Berrigan
15. Steve Menzies
16. Steve Price
17. Mark O'Meley
Obviously I've left out a lot of champion players but there simply isn't room for everyone.

No BK?

Was a tough choice to omit him, I'll admit. Same goes for Inglis, Lyon, Slater, Girdler and Simpson. Can't have room for everyone though.

You dont need to omit Lyon, he never plays rep footy anyway

This isn't a rep side though, just a best of the best. And Lyon would have to be pretty close.

I've showed this to a few people and they have all said they'd take el Masri over one of those wingers. He is one of the blokes I considered, I guess I just didn't wanna come across as Bulldogs biased.

Fittler > Lockyer
As for Lockyer vs Slater, well it's debatable but I grew up with Lockyer.
