I find that everyone is subject to the rule outline in the Penny Arcade comic... even myself.
While I'm not a raging psychopath like some of the people I come across, I do find myself "talking" differently... Though in my case, I tend to use longer sentences and bigger words, because I don't really care if I sound like a pretentious twat online.
... weird huh? I'd never use the term "pretentious twat" in normal conversation, but I'll bandy it around online like... something you bandy around (also a phrase I wouldn't use in normal conversation!).
In the end, being another anonymous being in a mass of other anonymous beings means you're not going to be held accountable for most of your actions... this leads people to become more like their "true self"... it just happens that most peoples true selves are asses.
As for gaming culture being more... vulgar/rude/etc... I'd love to point you towards places like 4chan, various car message boards, and other places where people discuss their hobbies in small, specially defined cliques. Wherever you find a group of people with similar interests online conversing in a discussion format, you'll find all sorts of raging asshats and trolls galore.

Humanity in general are jack asses; you just see it more on the interweb because it's not possible to hunt them down and kick the hell out of them....well, unless you have
Jay and Bob money.

Nice to see that Aetsu has figure out the meaning of life... *unnecessary sarcasm*
That being said: People are people. What is true for one person will not always be true for the next. Also, what is true for one person at one time may not be true for that person the next moment. Also++, what is true for one person may not be true for that person when surrounded by other people.
Life is chance... nothing is constant but death. (that... sounds somewhat foreboding)
I'm going to find a more upbeat topic to post in next...

Like any good WoW geek, he brings his kitchen to his computer.

Unfortunately, social standards are dropping, which can be seen in modern music...
Elvis Presley was scandalous.

Elvis Presley was scandalous.
1920's = jazz
1930's = Big band
1940's = big band w/ singer
1955+ = Elvis, Buddy Holly, etc.
Each of those were considered "evil" and "of the devil". All "modern music" is hated by the older generation. That's just how it works.
