I figured most of you are probably aware of it, but I guess some netstumblers visit this thread every once in a while

At this point I'm still riding the fence about SOPA (I would benefit from it a little), but the dude in Wiki's video may as well be called Mr. Fallacy. Anyone who's spent a week in a logic class could write a final project using that video. He also reminds me of someone who would have a fairly large collection of child porn.

How would you benefit from it?
Yet, his points are valid. And I can't say that the Congress (the limited part I've seen) is the sweetest bunch I've seen.

I would benefit from SOPA because I sell original written works through a website that takes a portion of each sale. Some people buy things from the site simply to resell them for a lower amount. When I sell Document A for $5 and someone sells my work for $3, who is going to make more money from that document at the end of the day? Not me. With SOPA, the site hosting my works would be made responsible for implementing a simple hashing function that checks user contributions against a table of hashes to ensure only the original author can upload a document.
As it stands now, I have to file DMCA take-down notices and if the offender disputes the notice, then I have to get an attorney and travel to California to enforce my copyrights. The site hosting my material continues to benefit from an offender's sales of my intellectual property and I cannot currently hold them accountable. SOPA would ensure the site does more to protect my rights. In fact, SOPA would REQUIRE the site to protect my rights and would hold them accountable if they didn't.
Is SOPA perfect as it's written? Probably not, but I like the idea of holding websites accountable for infringing use.

I have read the rest, and I agree you would benefit from it.
This is what I second. We can't have inexperienced users of the internet discuss the future of it, with only lobbyists pushing them. This is something world-wide and has to be discussed in like.. the UN, not the US congress. As internet isn't US-based, the US shouldn't have that kind of control over it.

But, we invented the Internet.

True, but you also invented escalators and should you tell us that we can only use them to go down stairs now?
and also, NPL were designed before ARPNET. Of course, different scale but the general idea still applies.

That's a good idea about the escalators.

EDIT: while i'm totally against desktop gadgets, i found rainmeter. Having lots of fun in writing my own desktop plugins which do EXACTLY what i want and don't have loads of crap that will only make my cpu a clusterf*** of madness and ponies.

Cluster Fs of Ponies > Cluster Fs of Madness any day.
Nerd/Gamer/Lazy Man recipe of the year:
Totino's Pizza Rolls
Malt Vinegar
Popcorn Salt
Deep-fry pizza rolls at 375 degrees for no more than 5 minutes. If you fry them longer, they pop open and their burnt innards will screw up your oil.
Remove pizza rolls from fryer and pat off the excess oil with a paper towel. Or don't. Either way, douse liberally with malt vinegar and popcorn salt.
Eat. Smile.

Hehe. I was trying to think of a good way to do one because of the "haste > crit > haste?" thread on the mage boards. Apparently it's impossible to explain the value of sims to people who have that deep-seated need to believe their personal beliefs provide better evidence.
