Never explore unless you "need" to, i.e. lose health/mana first - otherwise it's a waste.
When I did the Wizard challenge for factory I only had 3 Animated Armor, all below level 7
-.-
It's apperently the hardest challenge, but I got lucky and made it on my first try. Pro-tip, Jehora Jeheyu for Polymorph - the bosses are
impossible
otherwise.

I can't even kill super meat man, but I never tried Polymorph.
I've got The Crypt down on an assassin and on a transmuter (way fun class), but that's it so far. Haven't even unlocked the other two races yet.

I still haven't understood the transmuter, I mean - I know what he can do and !@#$ but I just plain out stink with him. Sorcerer pwns the living *!@# out of anything. The 3 classes that are right-most are the most crazy ones, they're actually interesting.

You know... if you find yourself having a bad start you can always Retire and try again.

RNG is a prick sometimes. I can't tell you how many times I've explored about half the dungeon as a level 1 just looking for the fireball glyph. I figure at that point, it's basically useless to try. *Retire*
Edit: Oh, and with the transmuter, the trick is to replenish your health mid-fight by destroying blocks that
won't cause new exploration
. New exploration is what causes monsters to regenerate.

Care to enlighten me on how to properly play transmuter?

Sure. BLUDTOPOWA is
awesome
. Binlor is awesome. Blow up walls for health while in battle, but don't explore to regen mana or reveal new walls. Attack things that you can survive a hit from, then regen your health by blowing up
visible
walls and then get back in the fray.

Just took out the factory with an elven wizard. BURNDAYAZ and BLUDTOPOWA showed up early, so I was churning through mana like nobody's business. Then Mystera Annur popped too. I was looking for Jeheyu, but when I saw the IAMAWAL glyph pop up, I knew what to do. Chain casting IAMAWAL on an immune boss after worshipping Mystera Annur results in piety gain and no loss of mana. I topped out to 100 and got all my boons, then topped out at 100 again to get the rest. I then topped out one more time just to be sure.
I finished with 36 mana and started on the now-not-resistant-to-magic golem with 6 fireballs, then killed a lowbie monster to level. It didn't take all 7 fireballs to finish him off after that.
Super Meat Man had me worried, but he couldn't regenerate health faster than I could mana and I still had some exploring left to do. With BLUDTOPOWA activated, he was nothing more than a chump with a melted face.

Yeah. I came to the conclusion that pressing Retire is going to happen a lot. I guess the point is to maximize your accomplishment when you realize that's the only possible outcome. Farm as much gold as possible.
EDIT
: Also. I just learned that next term outcome estimation is definitely an estimation
:(

Gosh, you must really hate Berserker if you always need fireballs
;)

RNG is RNG, even the author can't always beat the game (mentioned in the readme). Also, there's a gold-cap. You can increase it by beating Crypt. Anyhow, practice makes perfect - so don't always retire, atleast not in the beginning.
