I encounter the same issue with my Felguard. He obviously has an AoE, but he also randomly charges other mobs which have aggrod (predominately casters). I think it follows some kind of aggro table rule, and he moves very quickly so it is hard to intercept him and redirect him before he charges another target.
The only possible solution to this would be dismissing or having the felguard on passive, which will see a drop in the warlock's DPS.

axe toss and pursuit (felguard abilities) should be OFF autocast.
the felguard, when on defensive with those abilities on auto, tries to help by stunning any mob that is in combat with the group. the AI would actually need to be considerably smarter than it currently is if we were to use them on auto.
there is a further problem that actually what hunter pets do if you wyvern sting a mob is they run to that mob but don't attack as long as the sting is on the mob. warlock pets will happily attack a feared mob because they're stupider than hunter pets apparently.
what i do:
fear macro also puts pet on passive.
all other spells are macro'd to put pet on defensive and attack my current target.
pursuit and axe toss are OFF auto.
he still cleaves but that doesn't tend to be an issue if the tank knows what they're doing. if that will be an issue then the lock should use the succubus (glyphed) which currently does better single target damage anyway.

Solution: Make Hunter CCs not break on 1 damage.

not really a solution and certainly not a good one.

just
/petpassive
and
/petdefensive
it's still far from foolproof since if you fear one target (pet goes passive) then kill a second target (pet on defensive now) the first feared target is still in combat with you so your defensive pet will go for the feared target. so micromanagement still very much required but it helps a lot.

I think it's easier to keep your pet on passive all the time and macro /petattack into an ability you know you're going to cast. Bane of Doom is my favorite personally.
#Showtooltip Bane of Doom
/petattack
/cast Bane of Doom
Asakawa's version requires a bit more effort on the warlock's part ^_^

only in the planning stages, not so much in combat and i know it gets more damage out of the pet which is very important for demo.

I always had problems leaving my pet on defensive in ICC so I had to work around it ^_^
You don't have to worry about axe toss because it can't be auto-casted. All warlocks should turn the charge ability off and use it manually as needed (which is basically never). The problem is that when the pet is on defensive with charge on auto-cast it will use it. It can't charge the mob it's attacking at melee range because it has to be 8 yards away at minimum so it decides to use it on something else.
Legion Strike, which hits all nearby targets, (which can be turned off for a DPS loss) could also be the problem, but that's more of a tank issue. The mobs should always be pulled away from the CCed targets so they aren't splashed by certain abilities. If you have Aura of Foreboding talented then your Hand of Gul'dan might stun the CCed mobs and break them. I could never confirm if this was true or not because I gave up using Demo in Heroics ^_^ It falls under the same thing as the tank moving the mobs away though.
