I wanted to get all vrykul and nerubian commons/rares completed before leaving Northrend. By the time I completed all nerubian artifacts available I had an extra 900+ vrykul fragments sitting around. My boyfriend had the very same issue so I'd say it's very likely that it's just the weakness of Northrend archaeology. If you count the sheer number of potential vrykul sites versus nerubian sites in Northrend it all starts making sense. I think there's like around 4-5 nerubian sites (two in Tundra, one in Dragonblight, 1 in Zul'Drak is all I can remember) and over 10 vrykul ones. And you also get spammed with troll and night elf ones in between, making it that much less likely to get nerubian sites. So keep at it.

It prepares you for the climactic drama called "Tol'vir sites".

I'd just go for Nerubian sites whenever they pop up, so that you can use them up and have them reappear ASAP. Other than that, ya, only a few sites for them, so... it sucks.

Luckily for me, I got the Yoggy box as the first nerubian artifact, and never bothered to get anohter artifact again...
