Hey, I'm off to winter sport pretty soon. Snowboarding in France. Personally I can't wait for it but I would love some entertainment in the evening besides drinking.
I'm looking for a nice strategy-game be it turn based or real time or alternatively a good rpg game.
Playable offline ofcourse so a good campaign would be awesome.
As I didn't really pay a lot of attention to recent releases I wonder if you guys can advice me anything in particular.
Any advice much appreciated.

TES: Morrowind or Oblivion.
Honestly, I have no idea how long you'll be there, but these two games could keep you occupied for a veeeeerrrry long time before you complete everything. Fantasy. Offline. Open-ended world (for the most part). Long and epic quests, etc, etc.

Download some ROMS of SNES or Sega games and you'll b good to go.

I own Oblivion, the first one, my jaw dropped the moment I left those sewers, not a fan of the world leveling together with you nor the editing of dificulty on the fly. Amazing game though.
Gone check out Morrowind now :).
Keep them coming :).

Starcraft 1, Sins of a Solar Empire, or Empire Earth (all RTS games).

PC or console?
PC: What Funden said, Kotor, heck look at Steam before you leave a lot of games are going for 75% off.
Though I'm assuming you mean console, as lugging around a pc would suck.
Console: The Elder Scrolls, as the people above me said, Fallout, Lost Odyssey... I can't seem to remember much of next-gen rpgs =/

In Morrowind you can edit the difficulty on the fly too, but thats an option you don't have to bother with at all. I personally like Oblivion's "World leveling with you" mechanics because you never run out of dungeons to plunder and you get decent rewards from them. Morrowind, despite not having that feature, is very, very good. If you want strategy games you can look into Final Fantasy Tactics (If you're not averse to downloading ROMS, you can get them online) and Fire Emblem (I've never personally played much of these but they were fun.)
