yeah, vig for raid offtanking, but probably not really needed...
trash mob, rend, thunderclap, shockwave combo, spec blood and thunder = good damage and threat output
and practice CC pulling (sheep, mind control, sap, bound elemental, hex) if you can manage 2 CC in a pull, so much the better, and the tank should pull skull closer to the group, so that any AoE damage will not break those adds in CC.

Its an awesome ability for a dps. Tank vengeance attack power as a dps (youll get a full stack in a long bossfight) is really nice. Now, protection is not a raid dps specc, but if you wanna do it anyway, specc into vigilance.
Something like this specc: lots of stance dancing mainly utilizing berserker stance but switching to battle for rend and thunderclap on aoe fights, and using def stance to use shieldblock for heavy repercussions-double dmg shieldslams. And it works to tank in too!

Besides that i cant really see the necessity of vigilance, except to do a smidge more dps and threat as tank in tank swapping fights.

why you should stance dance? you can use the same abilities in def stance as well now. (talking about rend/tc)
regarding vigilance, yes, it has low use on a 5man party but is extremely useful in fights when you need a tank rotation.

B: you ALWAYS have taunt ready. this is slightly less significant now that taunt cannot miss anymore, but it's still very useful.
times when it comes in very useful:
For example: tank swapping in Baradin hold. The other tank forgets to slow down and pulls right off of you. the first hit that lands on him refreshes taunt and you can taunt back again.
You have a backup "taunt", so it requires repeated fail for you to benefit from the taunt refresh. In more general terms, encounters are designed so all tank classes can handle them, and only one tank class has a taunt refresh. This ensures that encounters will be designed to make taunt refresh useless or close to it.

Hi, I have been running some dungeons on my prot warrior, I have come to notice that vigilance doesnt do anything at all, unless you cant keep proper agro from the start and have to spam taunts all over the place.
The only possible use for it is in raids when your offtanking, so you can get some vengeance stacks aswell, but its still only 20% of the AP the maintank gets... Correct me if I am wrong but is it even worth speccing into it? My current build is like this,

. Its very much based upon crit chance and incite procs. I am doing fine with it atm, but will it be decent for when I run heroics aswell? As prot without a very good wep I find Deep Wounds dmg simply... inadequate.

Actually if you're a warrior tank, alot of people will make that ISH mandatory, because of the change to it. MT or OT it's nice to give your other tank 3% less damage taken. and if you are tank swapping, and your taunt fails guess what, he gets smacked again and hey look taunt's up no 8 sec of biting your nails.
Hi, welcome to patch 4.0, Cataclysm. Vigilance does not provide 3% damage reduction and Taunt can not miss. It also doesn't provide threat transfer (though you did not mention this).
Vigilance gives you taunt refresh you don't need, and vengeance stacking you don't need.
