/cast Hammer of Wrath
/cast Exorcism
If you can use Hammer of Wrath, it'll cast. If you can't, it'll just cast Exorcism. Probably a more extravagant way to do it, but pretty sure that'll work.

from my knowledge what macro does is goes down the list. if it does not accomplish the first thing then it won't go into the second thing. if it cant cast hammer of wrath it will not move on the exorcism. i was wonder if there a way to for the macro to recognize that hammer of wrath have not be proc so it will switch to exorcism until hammer of wrath is available.
Not to my knowledge there isn't.
Also Syn. don't you need to have a break between the 2 cast?

Just tested:
/cast Hammer of the Righteous
/cast Shield of the Righteous
Worked just fine -- if Hammer was on cooldown, it used Shield.
Again, it's not elaborate, but it does work. I would assume it'd work the same way for HoW and Exo.

What's the problem of having several spell buttons? Oh wait, then I have one too.
Can I have a macro that uses this priority, depending on CDs?
Avenger Shield
Judgement
Shield of the Righeous if 3 Holy Power
HotR if AoE, else Crusader Strike
or, if you'd like, how about I give you my account so you could simply play the game for me?
/sarcasm off
Let's be serious here. You play this game,
why?
I don't know about you, but I like accomplishing things... I don't feel like I accomplish anything if someone or something does all the work for me.
But I guess that's a subjective opinion >_>

Making this macro and figuring out how and why it works is probably harder than a system with two buttons which revolves around the decision making process SHINY THINGS HAPPEN ON SCREEN PRESS EXO and BOSSY ALMOST DEAD PRESS HOW.
Aside from that, economizing bar space is always a good idea. I have a fire mage with engineering and I have no clue how to set up his UI. I would love to shrink some buttons down in this manner.

Use ctrl or alt modifiers. This complicates stuff, but it frees up space, and can actually make things go smoother once you figure things out.
Making up space on your action bars isn't the same as using a macro that plays the game for you. Good examples for Prot I'm using, is Shield of the Righteous, using Word of Glory if I press Ctrl, or Inquisition if I press Alt. This alone gives me 2 additional spaces.
So for the macro you want, you could say.. Hammer of Wrath, with Exo as the shift modifier. Or whatever you prefer of course.

Keybinds and you:
Do not use ctrl as a modifier for repetitive pressing. Alt or shift. Of course I use the mouse wheel extincively so shift is very natural to reach from a natural hand layout. Shift-a-w-d-space/alt Mouseup-mousedown-middlemousebutton Thats 9 abilities only moving your thumb one inch. Shift is easist as the pinky should be resting on it. Alt-1 Alt-2 are also natural movements from the rested hand on keyboard. Oh %^&* or healing keys on functions (as ret or prot) Taunt either macros to q/e or as separate taking up q and e, same with exo as ret.

Oh, well, I agree about using ctrl can be hard, but shift triggers the stupid sounds (I have no clue what it is called in English...) if pressed too long, or too many times in a short period of time, it minimizes my wow, and pop-ups some stupid screen I can't figure out how to remove D: so I stick to alt or ctrl, and it works for me :P
Then again, I hardly use w-a-s-d, as I use the mouse to move what I have to. Even as a tank, I never have positioning issues, ever. This means positition my hand to allow easy access to all buttons isn't an issue for me, but then again, it's up to personal preferences. Whatever floats your boat as they say :P

Why would you make this macro? In shorter terms, why would you ever use SotR with 1 HP? You'd have to time your button pressing skillz which is excessively unneeded.
The point of the macro wasn't what abilities I was using -- it was to prove that if the first ability can't be used (due to cooldown or being unavailable), the second one would be used instead. Basically, to prove that the first macro I posted should work, since I don't have a Ret build to actually test it with.

I too moved with the mouse only, a couple expansions ago. I cant imagine doing that anymore, especially in pvp. The agility of movement is huge over mouse or keyboard exclusively. The agility you gain using both just makes a better gamer, no matter current level. Not having issues is not the point. If no one had issues, then forums would not exist. People are here to improve as much as they are here for issues. For one you cannot strife with mouse only. This means on encounters where you need to run away, youre offsetting a small part of your roll onto the DPS, and if they fail to limit their DPS due to the tanks TPS generation pause, then its offset to the healer to make up for the tanks ignorance because the 'had no issues with it'. Cause and effect.
When you get enough people that 'had no issues' with cutting corners, you create a wipe.
I know what you mean about the shift thing. The thing is youre not spamming shift. Youre pressing it once every 3-60 seconds.
