The most important aspect of PvP in BGs

As a 53 Retadin, I've recently been getting top damage done in most of my BGs, whether its WSG, AB, AV, or EotS (aka every one available).
This makes me especially happy because I feel that damage done (or healing done, if you're a healer) is the most important aspect.
Think about it: Everyone around you gets the same honor kills you do so long as you're both living and the enemy is dying. For killing blows, those can fairly easily be ninja'd if someone comes up and Executes or Hammer of Wraths your kill as you're about to get it, etc. Deaths is pretty important I guess but sometimes those are pretty unlucky (ie: going to 1v1 a guy coming at you, all of a sudden 3 rogues pop up behind you and ambush at the same time... crap like that seems to happen to me regularly).
What do you think is the most important aspect of PvPing and why? Other than win/lost of course, or capping objectives, etc. I'm talking about stuff that comes up on the BG score screen and that is the same regardless of the Battleground you're in.

No. That's not unlucky. That's poor strategy on your part. Rarely in a BG should you ever be running around by yourself.
EDIT:

Other than? ...those ARE the most important parts, in my book. Your mention of "most damage done" is merely a means to winning -- just as capping objectives is.
Now, if we're talking about what part of BGs are most inflating to your ego and e-peen.... :P

Edit: Funny enough
the most important part of BG's
IS
the stuff that
DOESN'T
pop up at the end of the game.
this
also
EDIT:"We named him Draenosh, it means cheesy role-playing story in Orcish"
Dranosh*

Objectives > Healing > Damage > Killing Blows

Oh the horror... really the BGs have tanked in the last couple years as the
vast majority probably agrees with your sentiments. When less than half your
team feels that winning isn't "THE" goal, it's all downhill from there lol.
"But look at my DPS! Nubs!"
"My healing is off the charts! I rock!"
(Says the pocket healer for the geared out DPS
sitting at the bottom of the enemy GY farming kills as both FCs go whizzing by
within 20 yards of them)

The point being, these are not poor tactics by themselves, they have become perceived that way because of the poor attempts at executing them.
This. Basically, scissors is never a bad strategy unless your opponent is using rock. And rock is great, as long as your opponent isn't using paper.

You are crap because three Rogues shadowsteped to you. You should have three Hunters with traps on you at all times, no matter what.
Lol @ people who think PvP is X on Z no matter what. Even at level 28 in my QQ post I didn't moan about PvP in general, just one thing in it.... because that's the way it works!

Let me point out the important parts of what was said:
going to
1v1
a guy coming at you
Rarely
in a BG should you ever be running around by yourself.
crap like that seems to
happen to me regularly
This is the mark of someone running around on their own just trying to get HK's and KB's. Serves them right if they're running around without the group and they get 4vs1'd.
It doesn't have to be rogues -- it can be stopping to fight someone by yourself on the road (/facepalm already), and the other faction has a group going from A to B and crosses your little duel's path.
Lol @ people who think PvP is X on Z no matter what.
There are certain common sense things you should always abide by -- most of them have to be yelled about in /bg chat -- and they include don't fight on the roads, don't leave your cap undefended, and don't run around alone. Rarely in any BG can you accomplish anything by yourself in the first place, outside of a ninja cap (which has its obvious uses, but rarely are these lone wolves actually trying to do this to help the team).

My first 2 toons were stealthies (rogue/druid) and I would never judge them by their honor. When I felt like farming honor, I'd gank people away from the action for kills, or stand in just the right spot and do nothing for HKs (AB Blacksmith camping). If I wanted to win (which I believe is the whole point) I'd do what stealthies should be doing: sneak around and cap stuff.
My druid could sneak past the other team and solo GYs. My rogue could sneak around and cause havoc taking towers or capping bases. Taking mines in AV..... capping flags in WSG and EotS (sprint+fast action potions+rocket boots makes for alot of caps).... etc.
These things don't show up on the scoreboard as much, but those are the things that win BGs.

Hm, well then.
For those of you calling me/people like me a nub etc etc, I realize that objectives and winning are the most important, but those change from BG to BG, as someone said, those often simply mean those who get to the objective and click it first, even if they didn't participate in the actual fighting to take it.
I said BESIDES those things, as in, out of the KBs, Deaths, Damage Done, Healing Done, etc. I realize that they have no real aspect on either you being good or anything. Oftentimes when I get highest damage done I also have been participating actively in things such as carrying/defending the flag, capping/defending bases and so on.
But can you honestly tell me that you don't feel happy with yourself after a win when you see yourself on top damage or healing? Or top KBs? If you can say that, then IMO there's something wrong with you.
If it makes you even slightly proud or happy with yourself then that is important, even if only a little bit. That's all I meant, no need to be all "Lulz u liek dmage nd not cap nodes lulz nub!1!1" just because I enjoy actually using my abilities and killing players in PvP.

Hm, well then.
I rarely topped the charts on either category. Show me the category that shows how many times you feared, stunned or otherwise CC'd the key enemy player at the right time- like the godly healer with the FC or at a node; or the DPS about to take out your FC. How about how many purges/dispels you had at the right time on the right enemy players? Priest bubbles on your teammates at key times? Heals on players that kept them up just long enough to kill the EFC, or take/defend the objective?
Someone said it is worthless to run alone. How about when you keep hitting a node in AB just to keep 3-4 enemy busy sitting at it waiting to kill you while your other 14 are hopefully off capping the others? Or in WSG pissing off a few key enemies so they chase you to a corner of the map over and over to kill you while forgetting about either FC?
The point is there are many, many ways to help WIN a BG. Topping damage, healing, or KB charts is nice but is NOT mandatory to win.
