So, for people buying this game... what are you going to play as?
This game looks like it's going to spawn a lot of alts from me, but my first toon will probably be a Charr Ranger. Iron Army, of course.
edit: I wish Ivokk would edit the OP with the new info.

Ranger is sort of my calling, but I fear the pet AI won't be good enough and it'll screw up the profession.
Engineer I thought could be interesting, but I saw a
PvP clip
and sort of completely lost interest.
Thief seems sort of interesting too, but I have a sneaky feeling that they won't be great against the best players, for some reasons I can't explain very well (depends a bit on how much they rely on stealth).
Elementalist looks quite nifty in PvP, but I fancy being a special snowflake and everything, I suspect very many people will choose this profession so that puts me a bit off.
Guardian/Warrior aren't that appealing to me.
Necromancer, undecided what I feel about this profession.
If I had to choose right now, I'd probably roll a dice, 1-3 for Ranger, 4-6 for Thief.
I don't think Thiefs will rely much on stealth, atleast during a fight (ie Vanish for rogues in WoW). It only lasts 30 seconds.
Elementalists will probably be really strong unless they fix the spell school cooldown.
Also all things point to a Mesmer being the final profession.

Good to see an update from you, Ivokk.
Stealth:
Stealth is very powerful in the game, and there's many skills in a thief's repertoire that grant stealth-- even healing skills. It is temporary and very much an in-combat skill. You lose aggro and can't be targeted at all-- useful in PvE and killer in PvP. Sometimes it breaks on movement, and it always breaks on an attack with the exception of one elite skill which provides perfect stealth for 8 seconds or so.
Stealth is a thief mechanic, but you don't need to build with stealth at all if you don't want to. If you want to play a thief with a complete absence of stealth skills, you're totally free to do it and you won't be gimped at all.
Ah okay. In retrospect this seems like a really good stealth system. Thiefs now look intriguing to me...

I haven't read anything other than the first post yet, but I just wanna say this. I watched Total Biscuits gameplay video and half way through I stopped watching...
Why? Because I wanted to go out and buy the damn game !
lol, it looks really nice, I can't wait to get that 'new game feeling' that WoW can't give me anymore.
Just read the whole thing. That does seem very nice and not too much like WoW at all. I just fear that the dodge/block system will be hard to use at first. Kinda sounds like a console game really.
It seems like clicking will be impossible in Guild Wars 2, while not really a problem - I did play WoW for a year or so before I started keybinding. So... I hope it doesn't shy away new players.
I'm totally gonna play a Warrior or Necromancer. Race doesn't really phase me. Probably a Charr though.

It seemed to me like the game would highlight enemies just by having your character face them-- kinda similar to how Zelda targetting works. Whether or not you can "lock-in" on an enemy I don't really know, but you can also just swing without targetting to begin with and if there's something to hit you will hit it.
Never played Zelda lol. If it does work like that though, I'll be very impressed, I always assume that MMO's will be WoW clones with a few minor changes. But Guild Wars 2 is different enough to be called it's own game, I like that - I really hope it's a great game.
:)
Probably gonna get a lot of hate for this, but I think Guild Wars is aimed at a more mature audience than WoW.

I partly agree, Zombie. But rather than being aimed at immature(r) kids, I think that WoW isn't aimed at any audience in particular, so by focusing the game on one particular aspect, the GW-team hope to attract more players from the group in question.
Of course, I wouldn't pretend to have any real clue.

Eh, I'm wondering now. If GW2 is hard to play it'll obviously shy away young players. If it's very hard to play we might see a bunch of elitists O.o

There's no official date for GW2's release, but based on the video's I've watched, websites I've read and discussions I've had I'm fairly sure it won't be out this year.
Unfortunately I'm estimating February next year. Which is when I'll be in Korea
:(

Norn warrior, and maybe an Asuran necro after the warrior is done.
Originally I was planning on making a Sylvari necro... Until I actually looked at them and saw that they were cabbage-patch (Heh.) elves.
