Your presence amongst the evil and dasterdly corrupted would be most welcome.
Muhaha!
Well, if you put it like that then I guess I definitely should come back.

Well hello there fellow locks! OP here. Was reminiscing about my lock the other day... Good times. Anyone want to give me a brief summary of the current state of the game/warlocks in general as I debate returning?

Guten abend mein Fuhrer ^_^
I'd be interested in a quick run down of what's going on with Locks too actually. What spec are most people having fun with these days?(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

Well doesn't seem like this forum is as active as it once was lol.
Most importantly, why is there no more warlock dps guide/FAQ ? Can anyone recommend where I can go to read a reliable one ?

What I always aimed for when I was writing those sorts of guides was to take the accuracy of EJ and present it in a quick and easily digestible format. Honestly, Noxxic fills that role quite strongly these days. I was always sceptical that a site that doesn't specialise (even in the one game, never mind just one class) could maintain accuracy, but from what I've seen they do quite well.

ahhh thats exactly what I was looking for thank you. Just got up to speed on WoW and SWTOR. What games are you playing these days?
I'm torn between going back to a past one... WoW obviously being the most polished and locks are the best ever.... I tried Rift and it the rotation was fun and complicated but I didn't care about the story at all.... Swtor obviously has the best story/atmosphere but the end game raiding was extremely easy so I'm looking for some feedback here

I can really echo what you're saying too tbh.
We raided in ToR up to Kephess and then Bioware basically stopped supporting the game and went into melt-down. The levelling was fun (for the first character) but there was no depth at the end. Plus I made the mistake of levelling the same class twice to play both sub-classes (Inquisitor) which left me burned out on the entire levelling experience on two characters with the same story >.<
Rift, I honestly think, is one of the best MMOs on the market right now...technically. But you're right, I didn't care about the story either despite thinking almost everything I saw was cool. I don't know how that happens where everything is cool but I have zero attachment to it. That said, Trion support their customers really well with tons of content and the class system is really fantastic (for people like us who enjoy that complexity). If I had a bunch of friends who wanted to play that I could be very happy playing it too.
WoW is always there, always dependable to give you a good experience. I actually enjoyed leaving all my old characters behind (I had 11 at 85) and started a Monk from level 1. I levelled it all the way up with a friend and did some LFR, having a thoroughly enjoyable time the whole way up, but Blizzard's plan seems to be that gameplay at max level is all about dailies and that's just not me so I left again while I was still having fun and before I started to go sour on it.
I'm in the process, right now, of trying to get some of my guild back together to raid the new content in ToR but not because I'm particularly jazzed about it as much as because it's free and the game most likely to get my particular bunch of friends back. If the choice were mine I'd probably choose WoW>Rift.
I think Tera deserves a mention. The questing is generic but the combat is very interesting and I especially recommend playing a tank in that game. It's not perfect but, again, it's free and if nothing else it's taking the genre in an interesting direction that I think will become more of the norm.
At the moment though I'm playing a load of single player or small co-op games like Skyrim, Borderlands2, Orcs Must Die! 2. Just waiting for something awesome to happen.
Here's a question, what game (single player or MMO) allows you to play the best Warlock/Necromancer type character? I'm feeling like I need to get back to my Lock roots.

wow alright good. I'm so glad we share the exact same sentiments and its not just me lol.
I haven't heard of Tera i might have to check that out. I've just been replaying old single player classics lately. I will probably end up asking IRL friends and people I've met in game and see if/what they want to play.
as for best warlock/necro game, hmmmm besides the ones we've mentioned... I usually go back to dragon age 1 a lot. blood mage in that game is ridiculously fun along with the whole mage class. It's so broken in fact that I have to make it harder by solo'ing a game that is supposed to be done with 3 npc companions. also guild wars 1 had an awesome necromancer class with both a pet specialization and a vampiric health-stealing spec (I did the latter). i enjoyed it a lot and I still haven't checked out GW2 but would like to

I got Dragon Age but didn't get far into it and never tried Blood mage. I don't wanna go back to using the xbox though so I might wait for it to be cheap on Steam and pick up a PC copy. I played a Necro to max in GW2 and enjoyed it a lot. The class feels great and my problems are mostly with the game itself rather than the class but the bleed cap was a major issue for me when trying to play as a condition caster.
I really liked playing an uber necro in Torchlight and was a bit gutted that the same thing didn't seem quite possible in Torchlight2. There's rough equivalents but nothing that gets the same feel.

Hi asa!
I'm currently having a ton of fun with my lock, popping meta whenever I want is super fun, seeing a 500k chaos bolt is a thrilling experience, and affliction feels like cata shadow priests. Fun for sure, not as visceral as demo or destro.
Windlord is one of my favorite fights of all time as a MS demo lock. I'm definitely enjoying this tier much more than I did anything in cata, but its not quite as good as ICC. I would even put this tier above Ulduar in terms of sheer enjoyment.
Raid wise, blizzard hasn't done much different this tier compared to previous ones, but my warlock is a lot more fun to play. While I enjoyed pet twisting back in fl and early ds, I feel like this is one of the better incarnations of the warlock as a class.

Okay so I'm in the game and looking at my Warlock. He's 85 and I've played around on a test dummy, trying the three specs, but I haven't really played properly yet. So, what spec should I use to get to 90? Does demo still have a clear advantage?

Demonology with the tank glyph and harvest soul is a lot of fun. I ran straight to 90 as demo, and the only regret was not taking the tanking glyph.

I ended up following the
Icy Veins' levelling guide
for demo.
It says to take that glyph and Soul Leech rather than Harvest Life. Soul Leech isn't as fun as Harvest but it makes sense to be recommended since, although a fairly small effect, it's always on and it helps the pet tank too. I've yet to use (or feel the need to use) the tanky glyph in anger yet. The cooldown on the filler ability is a bit annoying so while there might be some fun times to be had by playing as a tank while levelling I don't see much benefit. I guess I'll just pop it if things ever turn sour and see how it fares then.
The number of spells the specs used has been reduced even further (no Immo in Demo for example) and that really makes me yearn for the start of Wrath's Aff spec again. Though, maybe that's just reminiscence and it wasn't really that good.

Well, I dunno about coming back. My enjoyment of WoW was always tied to the people I was playing with and none of them do any more. I thought it might be fun to solo through to 90 and run the green fire stuff but, while it was okay, I got a bit lonely in there on my own. I've been enjoying Path of Exile a lot though.
That said, I'm always around on Wowhead in a broader sense and keep an eye on the old Lock forum.

Man, just checked, and I havent posted on wowhead since summer last year. Nice to see some old faces still here, hope you guys are enjoying it still.
Imo, MoP is a vast improvement on Cata in more or less every respect. I'm even raiding now and again :P

Just got my second thunderfury binding to drop. After farming MC since Wrath (when they removed the class restriction from TF) I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Hi TheVorago! Hi Fingulfin!
I agree that it's an improvement. The only bad thing I see is the greater focus on dailies. They've never been something that interests me.
Well, Fin, grats I guess ^_^
