My tip as a warlock:
Doing arenas as warlock is just as fun as making a colonoscopy on yourself. Well, thats my feeling about warlock pvping :(

Oh wow, now there's a couple of concise responses ^_^
Certainly something to bear in mind, thanks.
So, lets come at this another way. I've got a team with a Paladin healer and Warrior. I also have every class at 85 and I'm willing to gear up a new PvP character from the bottom. What should I go for?

Depends. I'm not sure if hpaladins got any better in 4.2, but you could try TSG (Wrath TSG = Warrior + Death Knight + Paladin)
I'm not sure what ratings you're aiming for, but I can't think any caster with warrior right now. About any other will do, including healer class (though double healer teams must be so boring to play >.<).
If you want to PvP with your "wuvly ickle gnomey-womey", dump your paladin and get a resto shaman. If that pala is a friend of yours, then WLP.

Well, the Paladin is a good friend but he's also as crazy as me and has almost every class at 85. His Shaman is Resto but it's our Main raid's healer. It's an option but the Shaman would take some gearing while he also has a Disc Priest fully 365 PvP geared if we decided to go the Priest route.
I'm not all that interested in the Warlock in particular. It means giving up the option for a second PvE spec so it's not entirely practical but it's the class I know best so I thought that might have some benefits.
I suppose we have pally-warrior or priest-warrior so what would be a good compliment to either of those?

Priest-warrior-feral maybe?
E: Hell, I don't know why I'm even giving advice. I don't know if the PvP has or hasn't changed in any way.
E: All I can give is an educated guess from last patch. Don't know if it's enough.

You are rogue, your friend could go priest. Get a mage and go for the classic RMP, should also be able to look up a lot of stuff to help you as it is kind of a benchmark team. Might not be originial but its a great team to learn pvp in.

Sadly, the Warrior is the only must. He has other characters at 85 but the warrior stays.
I'm gearing up my druid as feral and trying that out.

Cross realm grouping (through Real ID) is up!

asakawa, I think it's safe to assume you're a good Warlock.
In the top 10 3v3 teams
in the world
, half of them have a Warlock in them.
You can do fine!

Hehe, that's a good point though avoiding using the Lock in PvP is really helpful for PvE which has always been my main focus on the Warlock. I've got to say though that I'm thoroughly enjoying the druid. It feels like everything I liked about the rogue plus a whole load of other nice options. I'm really only missing Vanish which is no great surprise.
I've had a bit of success in 2v2 with it and I'm going to try it out in the 3v3 this coming week so we shall see if I've made a good decision.

Yay. I wish Hunters could achieve that sort of recognition.
But they never will...statistically. Time to go run LSD, or whatever is doing well for locks nowadays.

WLS ^^
Dunno how LSD2 is doing (aka BLS aka Boomkin - Lock - rShaman).
I played WLS in last patch, we faced BLS about 10 times. We lost every time, they and they all had >90% hp in the end. Pure madness I say.

Well,
my druid
is getting there... slowly. The new crafted blues are really great but I'll be much happier once I get rid of them all. Sadly, because I only just made the switch from Rogue to Druid, my Rogue had the 4000 point refund and my Druid didn't >.<

Did and alt raid through some 4.1 content last night and 4 of us took the challenge of having the 3.5 hour nyan cat video playing constantly in the background throughout ^_^
Fun times and I still topped healing (though on the Druid that doesn't say much).

E: Oh god I forgot how addictive this is.
