Playing WOW is entertainment not a job.
Oh this, this ,THIS! I cannot say how much i agree to this and so many times i feel all the fun is taken out of wow because "we rush so much"... I totally agree that when you want to kill a boss that might enrage time is of the essence, but hey... really, a heroic?
For me
it would be so much more fun if the run takes 3-4 min longer, but we would get rid of that feeling of "i have to do this now, FAST, before something bad happens because (usually) the tank keeps pulling and pulling".
Again this is just me, and i understand others are looking for a different experience, but at the same time i see any people here share this opinion. So why not try to make it nice for everyone?

I have to admit, I am one of the madly rushing tanks described in this thread. I dont stop for dps, I dont stop for loot, I often dont even stop for the healer if I feel that I can make the pull without heals. However, its not for the reasons the people moaning about it think. Do I do it because I wanna get out of there as soon as possible? Not particularly. Do I do it because I think I am 'leet' and superior to everyone else? Hell no. Do I do it for fear of dps calling me bad, or telling me to go faster? No, I dont care what some randomers think of me, and as others have said, if they wanna pull mobs, they can tank them.
The reason I do it then?
Fun.
There it is. My character is in my sig. As of this moment my stats say that I have completed 722 Lich King 5man dungeons, and I figure that I have tanked at least 80% of those. I know every pull, every patrol, every mob and its abilities, to the point where I can tank it in my sleep. When I step into a heroic (for whatever reason) I rush through it purely for the thrill - I
enjoy
it when a mob gets loose. I
enjoy
it when a pat aggros the group. I actually
enjoy
it when the idiot dps pulls that extra pack that I wasnt ready for. I have done it so many times that it is boring doing it at a steady pace, with everything being controlled. I want excitement!
I like the feeling of flying by the seat of my pants, of trying to react to bad situations, the simple rush of not knowing whether I am going to make it or not. Do you remember that feeling at all? It was like that when Wrath first came out, and we were working through heroics for the first times and everything was new and exciting. Honestly, can you remember the last time you felt your pulse quicken and your mind race in a 5man? If you can, I can almost guarantee it was with a tank like me. And I truly hope you enjoyed it, as much as I did.
How can you put "fun" and 722 Lich King dungeons together?

Imo, it should be a simple mindset:
- You have a way of pulling that you prefer. You execute it by default.
- If a party member calls you about it and it's not a ridiculous request (blue tank to pull an entire instance, not waiting for mana on the healers, etc.) you slow down; if a player is relativelly new and it's his first run, for example, if he calls you on overspeeding the process, you slow down.
- If a party member starts complaining aimlessly and crying about everything, blaming you but making no effort to change it, you keep your way and don't care about the rest.

Yeah, I'm a chain puller...
I deleted the whole post to make it shorter.
I agree with everything you said in that.

I chain pull everything. I only stop when i drop Death and Decay, or when i gather a higher amount of mobs. Whoever asking for a mana break will not slow me down, same as whoever going afk. I do not wait for mobs to die before running to another pack. As soon as i see that i have enough aggro, i move on, DPS can kill it on the move.
What i said above applies to all heroics except for the ICC ones. Whoever is whining that i am too fast, i can do it without him.
There is a difference between a bad tank that pulls too fast and dies, and a tank that pulls too fast and never dies. People that can not tell the difference irritate me. You sound like one, littlelot.

As a tank I take my time and like to line up every pull so that nothing is wasted, not a bit of mana, GCD, or even time. Moving at a reasonable pace is much more enjoyable than struggling to down 30+ mobs with no heals because some overgeared asshat wants to prove that a DPS with 40+k health can tank. It bothers the bejesus outta me...even if it's my girlfriend doing it. I want the healer to have mana...just encase a pull goes wrong and I want the gold from looting mobs....why else would I be running a heroic? As a healer it is even more annoying to be rushed by someone who can't hold aggro on all of the mobs that are being pulled. And as for DPS pulling, there is a word in the medical profession I like called
triage
.
Chain pulling can be fun....if you are in a guild run and everybody is used to play styles. It has no place in randoms.
'You pull...you tank' isn't just a motto, it's turned into a way of life.
