lots of folk get confused on what exactly "Lok'tar" means :P it's orcish for "Victory" (hence why Lok'tar Ogar means Victory or Death in orcish)

It's not a bad Haiku gcgI know we all think the haiku we write is pretty good....seems i am not lucky enough to be picked...thoughts?
First was vanilla. / Then came Burning and Lich King. / Now Drooling for Cata!
It's not a bad haiku, at least it follows the formula, except for the last bit being 6 syllables. But it doesn't do a whole lot to make it stand out. I think they're really looking for ones that can either easily elicit a chuckle from the reader, or ones that you can read and think to yourself afterwords "That was really deep," or "Wow that was a pretty cool metaphor," etc.
Word choice and sentence structure can also make a big difference, affecting how the reader reads your haiku can change the way they view it.
You just never know how the audience will react to something you make without lots of experience, something that can seem funny, deep, or clever to you may be droll, trite, or just confusing to someone else.
Writing can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

I'm very disappointed with this contest. Some haikus aren't even 5/7/5 or 3/5/3. Others just write a sentence and split it up to give the illusion of a haiku; and win. Proper haikus are rare, like Anubee's. Everyone else just writes about any obscure meme they can come up with.

I submitted 2 and may do another couple if I can think of a topic I want to write one about. The first is a meant to be humorous but like most of the other humorous ones does not have a whole lot of substance.
The second is one about a Paladin standing in the face of the scourge. Tell me what you think.
Naxxanar ,Tempest
Were merely setbacks they say
In the mountains stay!
Might of holy light
Stoic hands clenched on hammer
Staunch against the Scourge

I wrote a mixed bag of haiku too, some shallow and humorous, some deep and meaningful. I'm no art critic, but I find the Paladin very well done.

Another shining example of people who enjoy banding about trying to shift their gigantic egos onto that pedestal in the sky.
While I agree (partially) that Anubee's entry is an interesting change from the other Haikus; I find it laughable that it's the only "Real" one.
Yea if it was legitimately a haiku poetry contest and not just a funny joke/quip contest then it'd be interesting.
A "real" Haiku is a poem that follows a set structure of syllables, the fact that the majority of these are funny means nothing; in fact I enjoy that they're ENTERTAINING over just having a bunch of adjectives torn from the nearest thesaurus. It takes work to make something funny.

Hmm, well done. You've found an insult where there wasn't one. I didn't say your entry wasn't good; only that people decided to single it out and try to claim moral superiority.
The other entries are funny because they tried, otherwise they wouldn't be up there. Discrediting them is just going to embarrass yourself.

I didnt try to discredit anyone, i just tried to be funny, which, as you can clearly see if you look at my Haiku doesnt work that well :)
