Depending on how many shadow priests or aff locks you have in the party, and how you're glyphed, you can use poly to do some goold-ole fashioned griefing.
On topic though, yes CC is old-school, trash pulls in instances today are about grabbing as many as you can at once and AOE-ing everything down. I'm pretty sure this was intentional, because trash took ^&*!ing forever when it was single-pull/kill.

I think the only time I poly now is as a counter-MC.
So basically Deathwhisper. Did it for KT when I was running him too.

Gear inflation killed heroics. Back when WotLK first came out, I really remember Heroics being painstakingly difficult with PuGs and strict stat benchmarks to know whether or not you had the ability to do the dungeon. I also remember farming reps for enchants and pieces, as well as scouring the AH for crafted pieces to fill my slots before I could even raid. It was expensive and time consuming, but it felt a million times more rewarding than facerolling your way through 100 heroics for a zillion badges then dying in ICC on the first boss only to get carried the way through.

No, it's not old school. It's just not usually necessary. However, in HoR, it's not 'nooby' to use it. At all. In fact, I urge you to. It just makes life that easier. Find the mob who is at range, and the tank can't get, poly, save your healer some mana.
Because sheeping undead works.
