Mods shouldn't be these named figures that everyone knows. They should show up, delete things, log off. End of story- they moderate, hence the names. They don't sing stories and pass out lollipops. Why is it such a problem that the moderators are a part of the community?

What kind of definition are you using for moderators? Are they not allowed to be interactive or connect with their userbase?
They do what their titles state what they do: moderate. They are supposed to be unbiased, end of story.
Heh, so where do the Blues fall under that ideal? Seriously, give it up; wowhead isn't a normal forum.

You're right, its a pathetic excuse of one. Banned for thinking otherwise.
You know, your interesting rant aside... if you don't like the site, why are you here? I mean, if you consider it pathetic, go away and stop posting here, and it will stop the pain. Sorry dude, but I don't get why you are on a tear against the forum tonight; you haven't been here for a while.... oh wait... did you get banned and now that you can talk again, your po'ed over it?

I disagree with the OP.
I love Wowhead forums. I am on it most of the day. People are friendly, helpful, and most times when a persons posts are torn apart it is done by someone that knows more than the poster. Exactly what you'd get if you went on Dr Phil really.
I may be conservative, I don't know. But I live my life trying my damn hardest not to upset, hurt or marginalise people. This comes across on my forum posts. It is just me being nice, polite and courteous.
Wowhead doesn't need to have a huge reputation and spit out famous people and memes. But I am proud of what it is, and what it does. And I really like coming here.
Different people like different things. Some lurk in the Wow Help forums. Some live in the Randomness. You can feel the way you do about Wowhead, that is fine.
I also think there is a community here, definitely. You get people who sort of know each other, and I guess they came to know each other by posting on these forums.
Yes, the quality of the forums is due to the posters, but good luck with changing that!

Think of a little restaurant that you've been to all your life. You know the owners and you enjoy chatting with them and it feels good to have a connection with them. Are they obligated to be your friend and want to know who they are serving? No, they're only real goal should be to stay in business and keep you moderately happy while doing so.
Now think of another little family restaurant you've also always gone to. They serve the exact same things and the same prices (Yeah unlikely but work with me). The only difference is that you don't really know the owners and all they do is serve you your food. Is this all they are obligated to do. Yep.
In all honesty though, which one would you rather go to? The one with the owners that like to have a friendly chat without anything to gain but just being friendly, or the one that gives you your food and leaves.
Actually, I am rather annoyed when I'm getting my hair cut and the barber attempts conversation with me. I suppose on the internet it is different given that being on wowhead forums and also the internet itself we have something common to talk about.

I have thought this issue over for some time and I have come to a conclusion: Wowhead's forum is quite weak and it should be no wonder why is not nearly as active as it could be. Wowhead has hundreds of thousands of visitors a day and yet there is only somewhere like 100-200 active people that post.
Next, Wowhead suffers from a lack of people that feel not only like they are not apart of a community, but that they have not affected the Internet/ World of Warcraft at all. I cannot think of a single meme that has been started, people that are known outside the forums, or anything that makes Wowhead known outside of a place to practice putting in talent points or as a database.
Furthermore, many of the people that do decide to chat in the forums will have their arguments be torn apart and seen as invalid because of a single statement that one person twisted and made it into a bastard child. So, using my own thread, someone might point out that my using the creation of a meme to judge whether a website is important might be poor in taste. They might argue that its subjective and that such claims are lacking. However, when people make these arguments they focus on a detail and not the logic and thoughts of the overarching thread. What's the result? Someone proofreading what they say not for spelling mistakes but so that they are not flamed.
Then we have a mod issue in that they are in full force. This entire forum tries its hardest to calm everything, to have some sort of semblance of peace. Most popular forums lack mods who take part in conversations and make their locks known. In fact, most just delete threads and move on- they don't say why- its a given. The mere fact that this forum is treated like a movie with a "Teen Rating" on content is purely subjective and quite frankly superfluous. Its just excessive regulation on how people say what they say. The mere fact that the WoW forums have totally ignored their Teen rating is proof to this. Sure, on the books they say that to keep the content in a PG-13 realm but its totally ignored. The reason is that the customer doesn't want it. As a result, Blizz delivers. By making the locked threads stand out you only attract people to visit the "offensive" material. In what way does this improve things?
In the end though, one of the main issues is simply the mentality of the core posters: many are conservatives, some try too hard not to offend or get trolled, and some are simply just uninformed. In the end, this creates a climate with everything bad with an Internet forum and nothing with what makes it good. (Most forums have a very liberal bias so having a conservative bias would cut down on the users.)
I know this is most likely to go over like a lead balloon but I just wanted to point some things out. I also know that numerous people will skip this wall and say, "then don't post here." Well, I am doing this for you- maybe some of you will accept this and you'll get far more interesting threads than, "My Cookie!" Or, even better I suppose you can totally reject it and talk about this. Flame me, discuss this idc. I really don't- no matter what you do I win: you reject it you prove my point, you accept it then what my view of a better Wowhead comes true, you lock it and you prove my point on the moderation of threads, you flame me then you confirmed the flaming bit.
The Beach Boys are totally underrated.
Cool Story Bro.

800,000 people visiting a restaurant everyday is quite a feat. This is not a mom and pop site bud.
Queggy had over 9k posts when he became a mod. He now has over 12k posts. What would you consider unbiased and a lack of posting to be? Anyone but Interest?
Heh, yes because post count matter.... Queggy was a blogger long before he was a mod, he was also active in the Lore and Roleplaying forum as well, and that section of wowhead consumes your post counts quickly. But I figured if you were going to target a mod, you'd go for Argent.... after all, most of the major posts in L&RP came from him, as well as the apparently inappropriate Q&A he leaves up to let us speak to him. But hey, why not target GGG and Neutromity; you see both of them in the Bin after all, or even Mal, our royal Blue.
