so you like the buffs and don't like the nerfs?
pretty insightful stuff mastorbaitor, thank gods you can post again.
What a clever boy. Want a cookie for that? Too bad.
Anyway after having read through a post about these new changes over on wow.com, I'm starting to feel like Afflic is going to be the way to go in cata. The amount of time we are going to be using Life Tap and Drain Life together, and also possibly Drain Soul for Shard regen, getting the mastery bonus on shadow damage will help. Although with the buff to Soul Leech, Destro with Shadowburn will be competitive in the self heals. Demo feels a bit left out to me. Both other specs have these passive self heal abilities but Demo doesn't. It just makes me feel that while we are hearing that each spec is going to be fairly equal on damage, Demo will still be a bit lack luster since we are having less in the way of heals coming our way in cata.

No, just no. Concerning dungeons/raids, we will
absolutely
never be picking our spec (or have our specs judged) based on self healing. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever. Ever. People seem to think that just because healing is getting revamped so healers will have to use a variety of heals instead of spamming "OP Healing Button #1" that "OH TEH NOESES HEALARZ WON'T HEALZ ME?1111?11"... That is complete BS and needs to stop right now. You will still get your heals. We will NOT be changing our play style in the least bit* to accommodate for this change.
Soul Shard Regen is an absolute non factor as well. The only reason Drain Soul and Shadowburn even give you shards is for convenience during trash/leveling, it takes a whole 9 seconds to get them back out of combat. Shadowburn is actually pretty bad when leveling, just like in WotLK by the time a mob gets to 20% HP your next spell will finish it 9/10 times... Drain Soul is simply Affliction's execute, the fact that it redeems shards when a mob dies is just a side effect.
*assuming you aren't playing like a drooling retard right now

A cookie? No, I thought I was probably being quite clear that I only want you to stop posting such inane drivel. Even when you have another run at it you manage to miss the point completely. Maybe DKs are the better class for you.
Regarding Soul Shards, it's particularly a non-factor because there is nothing to spend them on, especially for affliction who will, ironically, get them back the easiest. I think good(/brave ^_^) destro players will start trash pulls with an instant Soul Fire before AoEing but that will only require them to stand still for 3 seconds after the fight.
Basically Soulburn fails at PvE right now.

The talented SoC is a nice affliction soul burn, with built in shard return. Though thats more for AoE stuff then most (?) boss fights.
And it might not be as spectacular as destro, but aff can still chuck out instant soul fires as well.

yeah, SoC doesn't count since it refunds the shard. it's basically just a way for them to apply a cooldown on the ability and barely interacts with the shard mechanic.
as for aff using instant SFs, i postulated early on that it may even be worth an aff-lock going into impSF since they'll have the same access to instant SFs. They have 1 point "free" (nightfall/fel synergy are the alternatives) and 7% haste at the start of the fight is up for grabs.
the question is is an SF, even an instant, actually a DPET gain over a shadow bolt. is a point in impSF better than nightfall?
a functioning 4.0 version of simcraft will be very revealing! ^_^

I kinda wonder if this is a sick joke from blizzard considering that they buffed our self regen (drain life/soul harvest 45% health every 30 seconds ooc yes please/soul leech back to 10% hp & mana aka at least every 12 seconds and any instant soul fires) and at the same time making life tap 15% of hp and 120% to mana. So at 100k hp we will convert 15000 hp into 18000 mana (were as before it would have been 20000 hp to 15000 mana)
Kinda excited for shadowburn in pvp, right now most people skip it. But now with a 35 yard range and a glyph that resets the c/d if you don't kill your target and even gives you back all your soul shards.

Well if for some weird reason it doesnt detonate you don't get it back. And you have to have a shard to use it.
Post by
asakawa
indeed. do you expect either of those to ever be the slightest concern?
Post by
USMCDiablo
Absolutely. What are the odds of my seed actually detonating when I'm AoEing ^_^
I hope there's a Saurfang style boss where a bunch of adds spawn and it can actually be made use of. Even if they're 95% AoE immune getting corruption up on all of them instantly would be pretty awesome I hope. If not, there will probably be other fights with adds anyways.
What other use for shards is there exactly for a PvE standpoint?
Instant soul fires for the haste buff talent in destro tier 2.
Resummon your pet that shouldn't have died?
I suppose instant soul fires throughout the fight wouldn't be too dreadful regardless. Even without the haste buff soul fires DPET as an instant should put it well towards the top if we need to "waste" shards ^_^
EDIT:fixed misspelling.

Thats just the thing though; a soulfire might have slightly higher DPET than a basic SB or Incinerate, but is that really a creative mechanic? It seems to me to be two more buttons I have to have on my bars for no good reason.

I know that level 80 heirlooms won't have their stats scale above 80 in cata, but will the extra experience from them still work above 80?
Post by
Fingulfin
Of course not.

How is asking something about cata, in the cata thread, off topic?

Heirlooms have nothing to do with warlock spells and mechanics.

Nope, the extra experience from the current heirlooms won't work past 80.
Didn't notice Fingulfin was responding to you. *facepalm*

Has anyone on beta played destruction while leveling. Right now beta works because you can immo/CB/Conflag and kill a mob but with triple the hp and damage i can see there being problems.

I actually leveled from 83 to 85 as Destro just to test out the new Soul Leech, and my oh my is it OP right now. Don't think I dipped below 60% HP a single time... If you start getting hit hard, pop Soul Burn and pop an instant soulfire for a free 10% heal. Simply ridiculous.
Don't even get me started on Burning Embers, that stuff is crazy.
