What Impact Do You Think the Gulf Oil Spill Will Have?

Well, if you haven't heard about the oil... eruption in the Gulf of Mexico, then you are living under some kinda rock.
Anyway, tarballs, poisonous substances, natural gas, and thick oil are now spreading at a fast rate throughout the Gulf.
I continually hear that it will have a major adverse impact to the wildlife and perhaps the entire world.
I want to ask you guys what impact you believe the oil spill will have.
As well as who is responsible and why, something that you can find with a little research. This is kinda sorta a way to raise some kind of awareness, but also a discussion that should be had.
I believe that the impact will be adverse to life of course, but I have no idea how far it will spread.
There is even news that the dispersant could of made the situation even worse, but I don't have a for-sure standpoint on that subject either.
Exactly how worried about this "spill" should we be?
Edit: And by the way, what sort of solution do you think should be used?

that depends a lot on whether or not you have stock invested in BP
:P
But in all seriousness I personally think it'll do some damage to the fish life / birds etc. but it'll also imo raise awareness & set stuff in place to stop this or other similar things from happening in the future
But besides doing that for the environment I see fuel prices going up as well as seafood prices going up a bit
I think it also sets up Obama to pass some sort of environmental bill, although this is purely speculation.

Okay, so, we take this giant cork...

The proper solution
was
requiring the drilling of two relief wells prior to the completion of the main well. Since we don't have a time machine, I guess we have to settle for watching BP pour every last cent into trying to solve an unsolvable problem which it promised it could solve.
My only hope is that this will be the straw that finally convinces America that a Manhatten-Project style program designed to radically transform our energy to renewable sources is necessary immediately.
I have so much more to say, but I'll just keep it short for now.

More governmental control in the wrong areas :P

Well, any major or minor disaster can always be used by a country or government to place more control into places.
Examples? Too lazy to post one. Anyone wanna quote me and then give an example?

Well, I just hope that Obama takes over the oil industry so that it never messes up again.

If this happened, and gas prices shot up to $25 a gallon (closer to its 'true' cost), I think we'd see a lot more solar panels around.

Share price plummets, millions of pensioners, the ones who are making the most noise about BP being a pack of arses, suffer from falling asset values.
No, seriously. I understand that BP are currently in the process of organising relief wells, as Heckler pointed out. Once they're in place, the any cap they use is more likely to actually work and hold in place.
All things considered, their first approach of doming and funneling the oil away was the ideal approach, but flawed in execution.
The current suggestion that BP should pay for lost wages for people out of work due to Obama's moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is a complete load of crap though.

There is also
speculation
that poisons are also being released with the oil.
Here are some of the worst:
Vanadium
Dichloromethane
Benzene
Yeah. All have TERRIBLE health effect.
And to make matters worse, Dichloromethane can be air born, which can be carried by wind over land.
That is not good news for Florida.
Edit: The plot thickens, sodium benzoate and other benzoates form benzene over time in soft drinks and other food and drink items. I don't like that idea, even thought it is apparently not enough to cause any bad side effects.

Libertarian response: It's their #$%^ing fault, so they pay every last penny. And it's the government's job to enforce that.

That's kinda of how I feel.
O wait.
THAT IS the way I feel!

So, Laihendi thinks it's weird that gas prices have dropped about $0.20 since this happened, where he lives.

It's the government's fault for stopping the rest of the oil companies from working. BP's going to be paying for the cleanup, sure. But the rest of the oil companies... that's sovereign risk on their part, tough cookies.

Imagine gas prices that high lol.
The only ones who have to worry about money loss right now is people with BP oil stock.
They have gone down 82 billion dollars. Fail.
