If I remember correctly, these statues were only given to Blizzard employees as a special "thank you" gift back in 2007 and it's limited to sub-3000 pieces. Blizzard later commissioned an epic, 12-foot-tall version of the same statue for their new campus grounds. As these statues are extremely rare and limited, I can't see why anyone would sell one, but judging by the seller's location in Irvine, CA it's probably an employee (or ex-employee?) who has had his fill with it. Maybe he quit, hates orcs or just needs money. Economy is like that.
This
isn't the first time
one of these statues has made its way onto eBay, and as the Penny Arcade comic references, one was also auctioned off at the Penny Arcade Child's Play Auction back in 2008.(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Miyari##DELIM##

I thought it was the other way around, that the large statue was commissioned when that facility was built and the smaller ones were made from the scraps of the larger one and given to everyone who originally moved in. Either way, they are hella sweet and I'd never let go of one if I had it.

I thought so too, because most places report that they were done like that too, but the statue wasn't completed until 2009 IIRC and Penny Arcade auctioned off one in 2008. Unless they gave them out twice, which seems kinda redundant.

or it could be that it took them longer to make the big one and the little ones got cranked out quickly, which could mean the little ones arent exact replicas of the big one but dam close. as most artist will do a conception before they create the masterpiece.

That thing looks great! It isn't worth 400 bucks to me but I hope someone finds a home for that thing.
